lloydi73
Ok, Kiss of death yesterday, after telling someone how great the 17HMR is and never having a problems with it or the ammo, I invited fate last night to which she accepted the invitation. I've put about 5000 rounds through the gun since I have had it and clean it every 500 rounds or so. The last time I cleaned it was 2 weeks ago and I've put about 200 through since the clean. Anyway, last night I was shooting and after about the 3rd shot, the spent casing was getting caught on the bolt and not ejecting and then jamming the next live round. To clear, I had to take out the magazine. and push the spent shell down through the bottom of the magazine chamber. It was quite a hard push and felt and looked like the cartridge rim was stuck on the bolt....this happened on about the next 3 or 4 shots, then it would clear and I'd get normal operation, then it would act up about in in every 10 shots after that...... Do you think it's an ammo casing problem or action problem?
Hendrix's rifle
Is the ejector clean and bolt working properly? Can't see it being ammo if it stops doing it?
lloydi73
Yea, I stripped it all down two weeks ago and oiled and cleaned it....
maxwell
If you have cleaned as per usual and not had an issue in the past and given the poor quality of rim fire ammo I would personally check it with another box of ammo preferably a different batch before looking for fault elsewhere. mick miller
Cleaned every 500 rounds.. wow. Have you stripped the ejector lugs (?) off the bolt and cleaned all that? There's a horseshoe shaped clip that holds either side in place. This can be carefully prised off and the lugs/ arms removed which will also let you clean around behind them. Getting it back on can be a bit fiddly. Also, make sure you clean the lug recess in the action (use a pipe cleaner) to remove any built up ****, clean the bolt races etc. But, as suggested, try a different batch first. maxwell
Loyd, did you examine any of the "stuck" cases once released , as Mick said the ejection claws can stick, also as I am sure your aware they are sided, good luck and I hope you get it sorted. Katash
If you did remove the black claws from the bolt make sure you put them back the same way round, I made this mistake once and got the same results your having, reversed them back and fixed the problem
lloydi73
Thanks guys, I didn't remove the claws so can't be my mistake of misplacing.....I did examine spent cartridge and other than impact on outer rim from firing pins, which was as normal, I couldn't see any other marking on head or sides.....I'm going to go out again tonight so I'll try a different batch of ammo and see if it was the ammo as maxwell suggests above

Time for another stripdown.
samboy
I had this a while back with my CZ .22. I completely stripped bolt down and also gave the breech/chamber a good scrubbing . Problem solved.
bruno22rf
452? - most likely, as suggested, one of the claws dirty - really easy to remove and clean - you could, if you are uncertain, try spraying the bolt/ claw area with WD40 or similar and then using high pressure air from an Airgun tank to blow out any crud. lloydi73
Well chaps, finally made it back out tonight and used a fresh batch of ammo, no problems, so one could conclude it was an ammo issue. Thanks for the comments and advice..,,,
JamesH
Good news and something to watch on my 452 but I don't quite get through the same number of rounds

welshwarrior
Remove the ejector hook and the case holder from the bolt and clean them will probably fix it. If not try some different ammo if not that you need a new ejector hook fitting.
la bala
After stripping my .22 452 down i had same problem, not ejecting spent case. Did the job again this week and changed the claws around, tried it out last night, problem solved.
