6.5x55SE
After a last look last night. I decided for the early start Long opposed to a late start and 10 minute drive. My destination was to a familiar spot BUT no Geese being seen in the morning but a few flighting over in the Evening. Even though the past 40 odd years told me the Geese don't shift till after sunrise. 5 am saw myself with my Armsan 20ga a pocket full of 1oz Steel home loads Conor ( Grandson ) and my Nephew and my 2 Black Lab's. Our hope's lifted when the call of Greylag could be heard above the making tide. 5.45 saw a small Skien go 1/2 mile to the left then as the sun started to redden the sky. The two excited lad's shouted Geeeeese sure enough 20-30 Greylag came bang online at a sensible height Game On the moment of truth 3 Shot's followed by plenty yes oh yes saw Conor kill one for one my Nephew one for two. Shouting to them quick reload as two Skeins side by side headed straight at us. Allowing the lad's to shoot first Nephew felled a Right and Left Conor felled two now I couldn't let these young pretenders get to cocky swinging through a orange bill thankfully I saw the Grey's head throw back followed by his mate and followed by there mate. Oh yes the Old Timer had just Tripled the Grey's with not only his First Second and Third shot of the season but with the first shot's taken at Geese with the Gun. Allowing the Dog's to retrieve the fallen 4-5 Skeins went by unmolested whilst watching these i suddenly heard a Alarm call a Skien had silently crept up on us but the never out sped the 20ga and two more fell. That's it for me but i allowed the lad's one more Skien so ended our first morning flight Conor 4 Nephew 5 Old Timer

6.5x55SE
Thanks Gent's Flipper. Loaded in a 3" case 1475-1480fps But I've changed my gun and choke Now using a Pattermaster Anaconda Long Range. Steel 2's is my normal shot size but this morning i shot 3 Greylag with Steel B's both killed extremely well at approximately 40-45yrd as i only shot after the two youngsters had shot.I let them set em up really 😂😂 Seriously put in the right place it's my error if I fail not the gun calibre or cartridges 👍

marsh man
Excellent start to yet another season Boyd , seems the salt air goes well down in the family tree ,as each year you take out another member who quickly comes a veteran after a few visits to the hunting grounds. well done to all three and not forgetting the two Labs. I am sure after you have had a long run of firsts, yesterday was up there amongst the warmest and with our marshes dry and the cattle still grazing I now leave the first 3 or 4 weeks alone and just go after a few pigeons. Yesterday afternoon my trigger finger was itching so I went and put a hide up outside a wood where I go on the edge of the marsh and waited for the pigeons to come back , sitting there in the sun was sweltering with very little breeze to drop the temperature but I would sooner be there than sitting about at home , I have got plenty of time to sit about when I get older , oh , and after I had a bit of shooting , I shot a dozen , lost two in the nettles in the wood and took home 10 . AberFowl
I need some cartridges like that! Cant find any 3inch 20gauge with big pellets in anywhere...best I seen are 24g 3s. Needing a handful of ounce 1s or 2s for the Mrs to try fowling with her own gun. Mine too heavy for her.
6.5x55SE
Thanks John. Must admit it was excellent BUT the weather did take the edge off the morning in fact so much i never bothered doing evening flight and as soon as the Photos was taken my knife was out breasting them into a cool box with freeze blocks in. Fingers crossed the weather predicted for the weekend comes

Remington do 3" 1oz 2 and 4 steel which I've used to good effect before i started reloading DON'T BUY Winchester Blindside Forsey Have Remington HD what will suit your needs and they claim to be able to deliver !!!!! If you know anybody with a 20ga loader I'll deprime a dozen 20ga 3" cases and post them to you if it would help
TONY R
Thanks Tony and to you. Well done on your Goose unlucky for your Son's Hope the Old Dog enjoys His retirement with the odd trip out Im going to miss having him with me Boyd. But he has been great a nice natured dog loyal and just a nice animal to be around and share time with on the marsh, only fair to give him a break in his twilight years. I know some may think i go on about reloading too much, but you just touched on a solid reason why reloading is such a practical idea for wildfowlers. If you ever want anythhing slightly away from the norm. its a nightmare finding this ammoo and costs you a small fortune when you do. A 50 quid lee load all in 20 or a used mec for a hundered can prove a worthwile piece of equiptment. .
