Sussex gardener
Hi, I'm not sure how to tell if my Lanber sporter is proof for steel shot, is there an easy way to find Out?
Stonepark
If no Fleur de Lye to signify steel proof, most modern (post 2000) guns should still be fine as they are produced for all markets. If 3 inch magnum (1200kg proof) your Lanber should be fine with steel shot in 5, 6, 7,8,9 with any choke whether standard or high speed. With larger shot, no more than 1/2 choke is advised to prevent risk of damage. If 2 3/4 inch and 900kg should be fine with standard speed steel with chokes as above. db135
My friends lamber sporters has "steel shot" engraved in barrels think he bought it new in 2013 it's chambered for 3 inch and multi choke
ShootingEgg
Isnt the fluer de lye to specify HP steel at 1350kg Standard steel and using 1/2 or more open choke I would think the lamber would be okay. But thats just what ive been told in past. Ive never shot steel with 3/4 or full chokes in. No matter what size, but im no expert. Just didnt want to damage my gun so played safe. dodeer
Generally any 23/4" gun is ok with 32g standard steel loads
Scully
You can still use steel whether your gun is 'proofed' for it or not. The general consensus is standard steel through nothing tighter than half, though I have shot HP steel through an old 101 for years.
Aled
Advice above is correct, and its Your choice as to whether you use steel or not, but my Lanber is not steel proofed, so...... I got wabbitboshed and bought a steel proofed semi auto to use on the marsh! Cheers Aled
dodeer
Go to any gun smith and ask if any modern-ish 70mm gun can use a standard 32g load and as long as choke is half or less you are ok Edited September 15, 2016 by dodeer
Maxus Hunter
Gamebore supersteel 32 gram no3 shot has a piece of paper in every box stating it's hp steel and 1370 bar, I only shoot 3's so not sure if the smaller shot sizes are the same
motty
Why do so many people think that their guns will 'blow up' if they use steel shot?

Maxus Hunter
I didn't mention anything about a gun blowing up just letting people know what it says in the box incase they buy some and get a surprise when they see it
