JDog
On Friday after work I went to the 1200 acre estate surrounding the village where I used to live to glass for pigeons for Saturday. There are footpaths on the estate but none near the long farm track where I was parked binoculars in hand. Looking through the binos I spied what appeared to be a ghostly figure clad all in white running towards me. This was unnerving. When the figure got close enough for me to look with the naked eye it was apparent that it was a girl jogging. She never saw me until the last moment when she was startled, probably by my great ugliness. However she did stop to chat. Here I will indulge myself in a description of the ghost. She was dressed all in white with what I am reliably told was a 'cropped top'. Despite the fact that she was slight, size six at a guess, she had almost certainly a 34c upper body, her hair was long and blonde, her face open and smiley and when she spoke she had a cut glass accent. I was mesmerized by this thing of great beauty. She of course thought immediately that I was an old perv. Not wanting to reduce my chances of ever seeing the apparition again I failed miserably to tell her that the closest footpath was a long way away. Saturday was going to be a shooting day. My choice of companion was a difficult one. Lloydi is normally on the nest on a Saturday morning so he was out. Allied to the fact that he has a new shooting suit and I could just imagine him standing in front of the mirror asking his wife if his bum looked big in it. OJW has just completed his first week's work so he was out as he would have been too tired. Also he has a sexy girlfriend so the chances were that he would be on the nest too. It remained for me to ask my old Cotswold buddy along. Those who have never asked anyone else to shoot pigeons with them do not know how stressful it can be finding anything to shoot. My old buddy knew the score, no pigeons and he would sugar off home to do more DIY and I would sugar off back to Lincolnshire and it would be stress free. We met just before midday on my favourite field, the one where OJW and I shot in the spring and which he videod. There wasn't a single pigeon on the field and none flying around but this line truly is my Old Faithful so we rushed to set up. In a wind so strong that the hides blew about like newspaper we had some really spectacular shooting. Several times we had four out of a group and once we had all five of a group approaching the pattern including three which had turned into the wind at the sound of the first shots. Very rewarding. He had to go out to a party and I had to drive three hours to Lincolnshire so we packed up at four on the dot and picked 139 pigeons. The bag has seventy five birds in it and the rest are laid out Cotswold Jumble Stylie.
pigeon controller
Well done, great description of your encounter. The pigeon shooting was very good but the presentation is not acceptable, what are you paying this Butler/ Ghillie for with a presentation that looks like a Pigeon Orgy. I'm glad that you went back to your roots and joined your great friend and had a great day out.
aga man
You certainly did indulge yourself in the description of the ghost! we can almost hear the heavy breathing as we read it!! No doubt the thoughts of Lloydi on the nest soon sorted that out! Great to hear you got out and shot a nice bag

Fuddster
Ok Ok-speaking of encountering the fairer sex when shooting here's a recollection form when i was 14. out in a remote hide shooting crows with a guy who started me shooting-pair of posh young lasses about 18 ride up to enquire as to our presence on their fathers land-assurances are given that we are shooting with permission and the older chap notices that the horses are sweating and frothing down the neck and around the mouth area. question-"your horse has a bit of a sweat on-have you been riding him hard?" sweetie answers-"well wouldn't you have a sweat on after half an hour between my legs?" she turns and leaves my life forever. I could never a female in jodphurs in the eye again. f.

shoot and be safe
Once again, your jottings really do paint a picture in my mind. I thought I would have to wait a few moments before I left the drinks table (it would have been embarrassing to have left ) then you passed comment regarding Lloydi and his conjugal activities which saw me requiring alcoholic refreshment from the bar It sounds like your old shooting pal and yourself had a grand day out in the field together Well done and thanks for an entertaining article of your trip. OJW
Haha only just seen this and it made me laugh, you are too kind. Great result. My nest is full of poorly erected IKEA furniture and an angry woman at the moment! I still have the two fossils we found in that field in the spring. Still the best days pigeon shooting I have had. Glad to see you are using your new photo-bucket app!
kippylawkid
I like how you manage to lower the tone in very proper manner! A fantastic bag. Reading between the lines I think there were 2 snipers in good form.
