ChrisPCarter
I'd wait for all the ones who will say no to come along before making a decision lol It's not steel proof so what does that tell you? I've got two AYA's and wouldn't put steel through them but it depends on the barrels, chokes and age etc
JohnfromUK
The answer I think is that it would be 'safe', but whether it is a good idea long term is a bit more questionable. If it is just for very occasional shots, I would play safe and buy a (I know very expensive) bismuth or tungsten. I keep a few bismuth for the rare occasions I might need them, but they are VERY expensive unless its just for a few a year.

I've got two AYA's and wouldn't put steel through them but it depends on the barrels, chokes and age etc All that tells you is that the gun has not had a certain test done on it. I now have three guns that regularly have HP steel through them and they do not have steel proofed barrels.
Paul1440
Do they do HP steel in 70mm cartridges? Edited October 26, 2016 by Paul1440
figgy
Put a few of the fastest hp steel through it from a safe distance and if it handles them ok you should be good to go.

So basically you have no idea and some of these guns are very old and in poor condition. I wouldn't feel safe but then I have other steel proofed guns so it doesn't really matter. Performing your own tests could be a bad idea too!
Dasher
Don't forget your glasses if you pattern them on a steel pattern plate though.

Walker570
I have been shooting Eley Bismuth in my 16 gauge 100yr old side by side no problems. Customers didn't like them one little bit. Shoot bismuth and be safe.
