njc110381
Usually I sit by and let these things pass over me, but I was just so shocked I had to post something. No doubt it will be closed, but hey, that seems to be the way here these days?! I was sorry to hear of the news that a respected past member has suffered a heart attack. Then I tried to reply and noticed that the thread had been closed. Where's the compassion on here guys? Moderators this is aimed at you - that really is a stoop to the lowest of the low. So we can't discuss members who can't join in for themselves... The guy has had a bloody heart attack for christ's sake. I really hope he recovers ok. If I had his details I'd contact him, but I don't. If someone could wish him well for me I'd appreciate it...
Davyo
He gave me loads of advise and he sent stuff through the post and wouldnt take any monies.I miss his posts, its sad that the post about his illness was locked. If we cant talk about someone (im sure nothing bad would of been said) that cant answer for themselves, then why the hell do we let posts run about Brian May or Mr Packham who also cant speak for them selves. Lloyd90
I read that post and the mod very clearly stated anyone wishing to pass on their well wishes could PM the starter of the thread for the individuals contact details. In this way the messages etc would actually get to them. Bit pointless to have a thread about someone who can't even see it/get the well wishes. Can't see anything wrong with it at all! If you want to pass on your well wishes do so privately, do you need to post it for all to see ?
bruno22rf
If you spend time on any forum with like minded folk you are likely to make "virtual" friends ( and enemies) as you spend idle time discussing the things that you are passionate about, just because you never put a face to a username does not make them any less capable of sharing the highs and lows of your life with you. When an illness strikes, such as in this case, I would consider it the honourable thing to do to allow members, who wish to do so, to express their concern and best wishes to any member past or present who is in trouble, it's all about respect and without that we may as well pack it all in. Lloyd90
So why don't you PM the guy who started the thread and send a personal message to the guy? One that he will actually see ? One that may actually have a positive impact on his circumstance and misfortune? This is just a chance to bash the mods, who in the vast majority of cases moderator very well. Of all the forums I use this is BY FAR the best, in many regards. Even the opening statement had a cheap dig about how this thread would be closed and how this is the way it goes around here 😂 If you don't like it go elsewhere! I'm sure you can find some other community that is totally free and provides as much useful info and resources as PW of its really that bad! If this was genuinely about that guy then people would have made the effort to contact him personally, it's VERY EASY to send the PM, but I suppose that would lose the opportunity to have a good moan 🙄
Mungler
The person concerned now lives on the Stalking Directory. NJC is a long standing registered user of that forum and so has direct access to the person concerned, so what this is all about, who knows. . Zapp
Banned members are blocked from viewing the forum, so the only way to relay messages to them should you wish to other than joinimg one of the other forums they use and just speaking to them is via pm to someone who is in touch with them, as we have already said. Lloyd90
Fair point , But how would we know this terrible thing had happened to the said person I for one enjoyed his posts get well soon We know because the thread was left up. The mod did not delete the thread. If they had done so then perhaps the original rant would hold some merit, but they left the thread up so that people could see it, and make contact privately should they wish! IMO it was the best thing to do, allowed anyone who wants to pass on their well wishes whilst also following the rules.
njc110381
A good point made by Mungler. Not being so much of a forum man these days I hadn't noticed he was on the Stalking Directory. I will go over there and PM him. Had I not dropped in here on the off chance, I wouldn't have known had I not read the closed topic. Had it been allowed to run for a while, Mungler's post may well have been there to save the OP from having to pass on what could potentially be a fair few messages. I'm not looking for a chance to bash the mods. I'm bashing the mods for doing something that I feel is very heartless given the circumstances. Rules are rules, and being a moderator is a thankless task. Generally people will have a go about something they have been moaned at for, which is a bit different. Walker570
I am relatively new on here and still finding my way about. I happen to be a Super Moderator on an American based forum and making these decisions is not always that easy. I've had my wrist slapped on here for an unsuitable word which would pass muster on elsewhere. What I like about this forum is the friendly attitude of all I have heard/read/spoken to up to this point and shows the quality of those members on here because I rarely see any interference from Mods. Cannot comment on the item being discussed other than to wish the gentleman well.
njc110381
If I had to pick holes I would say that there are a lot of rules here that don't seem to be required elsewhere, but it is what it is. I owe a hell of a lot to this forum. I got enough advice to apply for my SGC even though I have a criminal record. I got that and then met a very good friend who mentored me through getting my FAC, open ticket with a deer calibre within a year. I met another good Canadian friend who I've had a holiday with, hunting out there was a huge experience. He's stayed here too. And the guy I shoot with almost every time I'm out - I met him here too. There are numerous others who would take too long to list, but I consider them all to be fairly good friends. All in all I'd say I have a lot to be grateful for. The mods generally do a fantastic job and I rarely clash with them. This subject just annoyed me. I couldn't see the need for what was done so I said it. I don't need to find a reason to "mod bash" as has been suggested. Far from it. I like to think that I get on ok with all of them but that doesn't mean I won't say something if I think they're out of order.
