NorfolkAYA
Hi all, Went beating on sat on a new estate, had to fill in a form with my national insurance number. First time in a while. Now what does everyone one do with tax? Will this effect my tax code for my job?. What do I need to do?. Cheers Pete

masmiffy
The 'payslip' I get makes no sense to me, had to give NI number then get the following on the payslip Earnings (beaters pay) £35 Deductions after tax £35 Earnings £35 Deductions £35 Amount paid 0.00 I got a tax demand from HMRC on undeclared income but according to the payslip I actually earned nothing! Any ideas? Edited January 9, 2017 by masmiffy

NorfolkAYA
I just don't want them to adjust my tax code from my main employer 😁
triscrx
I also had this on Sat but it has not concerned me. If you do go over the lower tax threshold you only pay 40% tax on earnings over and above so it will only affect you if you start doing ALOT of beating, or if on the edge of the lower tax limit it will just mean you only keep 60% of what you are paid to beat if you teeter over the current tax code. Wb123
I've heard if you are suitably engaged with your finances and a 40% or higher tax payer on your usual employment you can make more profit out of the tax deductions on your 'failing beating buisness' by claiming tax relief on a good portion of your shooting costs re dogs, transport, equipment etc... The chap who told me this does seem to be highly 'aggressive' in his tax affairs though, whether it would stand up if selected for closer examination by HMRC I don't know. roadkill
its really easy, call them up and let them know how much you have been payed, you get to keep that money in gross. As i am on paye with my main job then just add the amount to that and altered my tax code to suit, its my job to inform them every year if i earn more or less than what i has just declared. as long as you don't go over the 2500 allowance or invoice the shoot for your work then you won't have any issues Jamie I also had this on Sat but it has not concerned me. If you do go over the lower tax threshold you only pay 40% tax on earnings over and above so it will only affect you if you start doing ALOT of beating, or if on the edge of the lower tax limit it will just mean you only keep 60% of what you are paid to beat if you teeter over the current tax code. thats what i was also told as i was getting close, if i go over by £500 then i only pay 40% on the 500 Roadkill
ips
Funnily enough I have wondered the same thing. The estate I beat on (and occasionally load)have us sign for our pay every week, they record name and address but haven't asked for Ni number. I am self employed so do I need to declare it to my accountant or deal with it seperately or keep my mouth shut
