chefy
What's a good magnet battery that's going to last a good few hours thanks
getthegat
I use one that is designed for a commercial building alarm system. It's about the size of a motorbike 12v battery and never goes flat. Not got it here so can't give any details at this time, but alarms need quality units; my last one did 5 years. Newbie to this
Something like this And they're rechargeable so get a 12v battery charger and keep it topped up. They are designed to be constantly charged. Edited February 25, 2017 by Newbie to this

motty
I wouldn't bother with a 7ah battery for a magnet. It will probably last 4 hours at a push. I now go for 22 ah batteries. They will cope with an all day session.
JDog
I have always used 12 volt, 7ah batteries as shown in the picture. Nowadays they last longer in the field than I do.

I'd back this up I've got a 7ah alarm battery and I'm lucky to get 3hrs off it, I've found if you breast the pigeons you get a bit longer

chefy
Cheers. I use a 7ah now for the flapper with no problems my magnet one has died today had it about 5 years but can't read the name on it. looks like I need a bigger one for the magnet
Wilts#Dave
Never had a problem using 7ah batteries but I'll always take two in any case....with a Pinewood magnet will go as long as I generally stay out, had no problems with an A1 lightweight magnet either but they're not too heavy to carry a spare and I get them for £12 at the wholesalers! chefy
Tried a spare caravan battery when I got home it was fine for about 30 seconds and then just went round very slow and it was full charge

chefy
Runs fine on a smaller battery though
Dbw1shrops
Think that a caravan battery is not up to the job for a magnet as I'm sure there not sealed lead acid. I use a 22 ah battery and it will run all day on it but they are heavy along with all your other gear and battery's for flappers
hawkfanz
my 7a hr battery will last all day with the new lightweight magnet from a1,,,with my old magnet with wiper motor power about 4 hours.
HIDENSEEK
my 7a hr battery will last all day with the new lightweight magnet from a1,,,with my old magnet with wiper motor power about 4 hours. Hi Hawkfanz. Is this with dead birds on, or artificials? Thinking about a new lightweight magnet but always use dead birds, so don't want a magnet not up to the job, or a battery that won't do 5 hours. Cheers. Cosd
A magnet will draw 2 - 3 amps per hour (roughly), how long do you want it to last? Lightweight magnets will possibly draw a little less. You can do the maths..... Edited February 27, 2017 by Cosd
