SxS
Thinking about adding another gun to the cabinet, and a friend has a (completely standard) model that I like and fits me well. Browsing online, a dealer some distance away has a new one with nicer wood than any of the local dealers seem to have. So the question is... does anyone know whether/how much stock dimensions tend to vary between guns coming out of the factories? My gut feeling is they probably don't but I don't really want to buy it, have it RFD transferred, and then discover that it doesn't fit. But if they are consistent then an RFD transfer is going to be considerably cheaper than the fuel I'd burn going to collect it. Can anyone offer any thoughts/advice? panoma1
As a mass produced, machine made item, it will be as similar to all others, as the accuracy of the machine making it allows!
Duckandswing
I tried three separate Browning b525 when I chose mine, simply because, like you, after fit I was basing my choice on the wood. The dimensions on the three I tried were near as damn it identical, or at least they felt the same to me.
ips
Its not so much the dimensions such as cast or comb height etc, density of wood can drastically effect balance and therefore handling.
itchy trigger
found that the comb height can and does vary, tried quite a few of the same model browning before I found one that fit, there was a lad at the shoot with a new same model as mine and that was ordered specially with a slightly higher comb, that fit
wabbit warren
should be the same all but given the way they are made stock should only vary if the wood has a defect and has to be reworked
welshwarrior
The dimensions do vary some make quite a bit. Why not ask the gunshop to provide you with its dimensions that way you know if they are the same.
SxS
Thanks guys - I'll see if the shop can give more detailed dimensions to compare the two.
Gunman
You can try 6 identical guns of the same make and model .2 will feel great , one wont feel right at all and there will be one that feels just right for you . Down side is is most likely the one with the wood you like least . But hey thats life . Even so called "best London " guns will vary , I restocked a pair some years ago and there was up to an 1/8" difference in the drop and cast of the original stocks .Wood is a natural material so will move especially when stresses have been taken out when working . figgy
If you like it just buy it and if it's not a perfect fit get it fitted.
