wymberley
My 'equipment' knives are either fixed or locking blades and I fancied a new every day legal carry proper pocket knife and found this one. Am well pleased with my choice, just the right size:

wymberley
why is a non locking knife legal? as opposed to an illegal locking knife. Bloody good question! In this specific case though, because the blade is less than 3".
stumfelter
why is a non locking knife legal? as opposed to an illegal locking knife. A non-locking knife with a blade of less than 3 inches is legal to carry in the UK.
wandringstar
Have a read............................. https://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/297370-buying-and-carrying-knives-the-law/ yeh I read it, it tells me what is or isn't legal, but I would like to know why I could carry a 3 inch non locking knife, and not a 3 inch locking knife, there must be a reason. I genuinely don't know, I am not interested in knives and never have been. A non-locking knife with a blade of less than 3 inches is legal to carry in the UK. yeh why is it legal? kyska
yeh I read it, it tells me what is or isn't legal, but I would like to know why I could carry a 3 inch non locking knife, and not a 3 inch locking knife, there must be a reason. I genuinely don't know, I am not interested in knives and never have been. yeh why is it legal? It's more the case that law makes it clear you can't carry a fixed blade of more than three inches, matters not that it folds, a locking knife is effectively a fixed blade. The line in the sand is set. It makes carrying a kitchen knife, machete, sword illegal, regardless of size. wymberley
Thank you, Guys. I have to say after several weeks of crass stupidy on the part of several internet retail outlets, that part of the pleasure in obtaining the knife is due to the efficiency of UK Legal Knives who managed to do exactly what they said they'd do when they said they'd do it. Still don't see it as 'equipment' though, having other more appropriate ones for that use.
ditchman
A trip around my knife................ nothing special....its about 30-40 years old...bought it from an old huntin' shootin' fishin' shop in Okeechobee (florida) when i worked over there....the main blade is getting shorter by the year....very pointy....good for digging splinters out of your finger....and is very very sharp....shave the hairs off you arm sharp, and it keeps a good edge.... dont carry it about now cause im frightened of loosing it.....i have a leatherman full time in the landrover....thats battered and fairly old as well (like me i guess)............... think pocket knives are very personal....like a given watch.............. Muddy Funker
At a guess locking knives are deemed illegal because they are easier to stab someone with, a folder will, well, likely fold.
