I saw a study the other day saying the majority of 18-28 year olds are spending 110% of their yearly income, work that one out!

An interesting point. Diane Abbott said they were actually spending 112% of their yearly income, whilst saving the other 15%.

His radio interview, when he hasn't got a clue about the cost of "free childcare", is a classic. Makes Diane Abbott seem merely thick.

I find their support odd, as it is clear that they haven't got a clue how much anything costs or where the money will be found. Every interviewer now asks for costings - because of their car crash interviews - and they just turn up, without bothering to do their research. Yet they still get away with it. :hmm:

I don't think it will be that good

This is what worries me, all this talk of free stuff and the benefits lot are going to be lapping it up, they don't care where the money comes from, they will just expect it to be there.

These people are right in PMT's line of fire, and rightly so

Some blandly accept Corbyn's word for it. They should be able to trust him, as he has never, ever met the IRA.

Let it go Gordon. Yes, he should be in jail, but the creepy little hairball seems to have avoided the net for now. I wonder if Retsdon was in that photo you posted?

I've just seen Jezzas interview with Emma Barnett on radio 4.

What an absolute waste of oxygen he is, however, it appears that him and Diane are a perfectly matched couple.

Thankfully they have never reproduced!

I think here speaks a man who will not be effected

If it is good why are they not shouting it from the housetops - simple - it will cost most house holders a lot of money

As i read it the value is the unimproved land value- fair enough - the unimproved land next to me has been sold by the farmer for 5 houses for £500K. If the plots are of similar size (which I think they are), my band D property annual will rise by two and a half times based on the 3%tax mentioned.

It would likely be the same for all including those who rent.

Also extra tax on farm land would put up food prices.

Now repeat it is a good idea - no wonder they are keeping it quiet.

I haven't looked at the link yet but if you have a large garden they want to charge you for it is that the basic idea?

Who has large gardens? Folk who work hard and choose a house with a large garden or have plenty of cash and so buy something with a bit of land, or folk in rentals and council accommodation??

It's a tricky one can't think why there not shouting about it🤔

Retsdon - any chance of an answer? You keep popping up, but never manage to answer anything. You wouldn't be a troll would you?

The drivel (s)he posts is hardly worth a reply anyway, just work round it and with any luck (s)he'll just fade away. Has a very strange outlook.

I'm not saying it's a good idea. Whay I AM saying is that for a long time many economists and taxation gurus, including some on the right of the political spectrum - Milton Freedman for example - have said that LVT is the least pernicious and most equitable form of taxation.

Of course, as with any form of tax, HOW it were applied would determine how equitable it woukd be. But whatever, because -and I've only this second just looked it up - what the Labour Party is proposing is to ...

“ initiate a review into reforming council tax and business rates and consider new options such as a land value tax, to ensure local government has sustainable funding for the long term.”.....In other words, all they're proposing -from what i can see- is to consider the possibility of shifting from a tax on produced wealth (business rates) to a tax on non-producing wealth.

And by the way, I'm not a troll. After lurking for ages I eventually signed up to PW because I wanted to contribute to a couple of threads on training gundogs and that's where my few contributions have been until now. But this particular discussion appeared so one-sided that I felt moved to try and inject a bit of balance.

Anyway, it seems that my attempt to balance the political argument has angered and upset some people. That was never my intention, so this is my last comment on the thread. In future I'll confine my contributions to retrieving short or choke patterning or whatever.

Cheers..

Retsdon - I would not say your contributions have angered or upset anyone - perhaps confused would be more apt. Your attempts to give credibility to Corbyn, whilst swiftly dodging any awkward questions about his honesty, have been worthy of a seasoned politician.

I admire your efforts in trying to add some balance to the discussion, but fear that they were unnecessary and ultimately failed. Perhaps the reason that the thread appeared so one-sided was merely that Labour are currently a shambles, led by intellectual lightweights, with little conscience or memory.

That is the truth that you seek. Rest easy, now that you have found it. :good:

Labour needs to create a dependent underclass. Years ago most of the people on here would have been core labour voters but they don't speak for us (or even to us) anymore.

So they have to find replacement voters from somewhere, quite simply they import them then bribe them with handouts
