Parrotlets1
I have just bought a Arm Arms s410 that's been neglected a bit, the barrel and tank have some light patches of surface rust, the rest of the gun is mint, any one got any suggestions on how to recover it back to good condition again,. Thanks
timmytree
Plenty of rubbing with an oily cloth will help. I have heard that rubbing with foil also helps but I've never tried that. The other option is to replace the barrel or get the old one reblued.

Parrotlets1
No it's just rust you can wipe off not flaky rust thanks though
Rimfireboy
Oil on the rust and rub with a penny flat on you're fingertip to remove the rust without marking the blueing. Try that before using anything abrasive.
ips
Hows a penny not abrasive, does it not scratch the bluing. Asking as I have very very light pitting on my SxS

saddler
Oil on the rust and rub with a penny flat on you're fingertip to remove the rust without marking the blueing. Try that before using anything abrasive.NOTE Only use a traditional olde copper penny Reason being the copper is harder than the rust but softer than the steel Use a modern penny & it'll be a different story as the copper is a plating. johnbaz
If the rust is only surface rust then the finest wire wool soaked in light machine oil (Or 3 in 1) will remove it Here's a mk2 Airsporter that I was given, It was so bad that I used coarse wire wool as I didn't think I could make it any worse!! Ten minutes later.. The stock was bleached white with the sun but came up OK John

Thanks hello, seems a shame when they cost so much money and it only takes a few minutes with an oily rag.
Parrotlets1
Completed mine, used a copper washer to remove some flakes then an oily rag as advised, came up a treat, I'm done my Air arms S410 carbide, my airsporter not sure what model and my Diane's 79 series, what a difference an oily rag and elbow grease makes, well happy,, thanks guys
