Could i suggest that when anyone has a few minutes to spare they read chapter 25 of the Firearms act, it deals with the surrender of firearms and starts " No obstacle should be placed in the way of a person who wants to surrender firearms or ammunition to the police". It continues into various detail and scenarios but basically anyone (including an RFD) can at anytime hand a gun into the police without there being an amnesty.

That would not have the same PR value for the police.

Could you please point me to this section?. My copy of the Act has Chapter 25: 'Supplying firearm to person drunk or insane'.

Well done, Sir. Many thanks. It's not actually 'The Act', though, merely 'guidance' and not Law. I suspect that's why Leics. won't accept firearms from RFD's. (See 25.9).
