Wrong section, but Mods will move it or you Im sure

Is it as good as the ratings say, and is brass available from anywhere?

Its the new kid on the block, in a few months there will be another one come along.

its got to be better than all the others, because they say so.

You will struggle tog get the velocity of the 260. But reports are supposed to be good, but then the reports come from those that have one already.

You really need to look at what do you need it for.

As a lad I was always fascinated by long range black powder rifle shooting, but the nearest I ever got was an original .577 Martini Henry.

Mates will spend all day loosing off rounds from their T3's, Sako and Ruger rifles, but I find it mind numbingly boring, but the idea of spending a day shooting original Whitworth, Sharps, Highwall and Creedmore type rifles still fascinates me.

Have fun; that's what its all about.

Has been for sometime now. But going back a few years the 47 was the dog's dangles. That was the one to have, now we have the creedmore,therez6another coming out soon that will be snapping at the CMs heels.

It just goes on.

It really depends on its purpose. Long range varmint, 1000yds plinking???

The key to get the published results is the Lapua brass using small rifle primers. The others with large rifle primers tend to unseat the primer at top end pressure to get the stated velocities.

As said decide what you want it for then look at all the 6.5 offerings decide which best suits for some jobs they'll all be good as each other.

Creedmore was a rifle range in New York where the Americans first practiced competitive long range target shooting. Through testing and development the science evolved and really set the principles we still adhere to today, heavy barrels, bedded stocks, target micrometer sights etc. Just a bit of history to while away a rainy day

Very little in it between the 260 and creed. Either will do you proud.

I have been running a creed for a year or so, happy with it. At the time no brass so made all from 308 lapua. Did run it with Palma brass but for the very small gains in velocity I went back to Sydney primers and changed powder.

Next build, I'm thinking 6mm creed

You can get good results from necked up .22-250 brass too

Not much new with the calibre though, as with any other 6.5 they spit the same make of bullet (with the same ballistic co-efficient) out of the barrel.

Explains the reason the 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser was seen as THE caliber for several decades; and that from a 19th century design!

Thanks everyone

The only thing that's a pain now is a whole load of load development because I can't get 140 Amax. Tried eldx but we're rubbish with same load and seating.

Have you tried Forest Lodge guns at Wragby for 140 Amax? Last time I was in there it was bursting at the seams with re loading kit

I use a 6.5x55 for all my stalking and it's a great caliber.. easy on recoil and drops roe/sika with ease as long as I do my bit..
