Pigeon shooting in the rain

Hi guys is it worth shooting pigeons in the rain? Farm i shoot for still has some standing wheat and iv not had chance to get out for a few months weather forecast is 50-60% rain through the day and rained most of the night.

In my opinion you can shoot birds in light rain as they still feed , watch the field before you set up and if they are feeding have a go.

Being the tackle-tart that I am, I just hate getting my guns wet!

You'll end up with clodded boots...which I find both a hazard and a nightmare, I have shot during showers but unless I'm chomping to get out I avoid it.

I was flighting birds in the rain yesterday for a couple of hours, whilst raining they either feed or sit tight in a wood (i was in the wood with Hushpower 410), as showers passed through the birds would move and you get movement resulting in a dozen birds in the bag for a nice couple hours.

All depends on the amount of time you have got available for pigeon shooting , if you only have limited time , say Saturday afternoons and it is raining then I don't blame you if you gave it a go .

 

In my case I go pigeon shooting for the enjoyment and to tell you the truth I get no pleasure whatsoever shooting pigeons in the rain , everything gets wet and even the dead pigeons look a mess , mind you , if I was fowling then I grin and bear it and stick it out till the water runs out of my boots

Like most others I dislike shooting in the rain. Six or seven weeks ago I shot 58 pigeons in heavy rain on rape stubble and I really enjoyed it. Cleaning and drying my kit was not much fun.

I can't believe how many crops are still left out form the posts on PW, Barley and Wheat still not harvested.........terrible year for the farmers!

I am an ex bricklayer,so first sign of rain and i am thinking about heading for cover

A few years back we got caught out in a shower,we covered under the tree but it soon came through so we legged it to the landrover,couldn't beleive our eyes,the pigeon came in a feeding frenzy rolling over each other like tumble weed and the rain was so hard we had wipers on full speed.

I've watched them drop into fields like bombs .when its raining hard .

If they want a field then rain wont stop em .they probably know the predators are somewhere else ..

It's also my experience you get a good flurry of activity between downpours. So worth hanging on if they are committing prior to any rain storm.
