Sundowner
hi guys, don;t knock it unless you tried it. I had the luck to see a native american in a reservation bowfishing ( he did let me have a go) while his family was catching crabs ............... it is food and they did eat it!!!!! He nailed a garfish into the canal bed ,walked in and got it out. A few yards up the road I saw a (at least !!!!) 18 ' alligator getting into the water. THis fella either knew something I didnt or he just had guts !! Also, if you look closely at the vid, they are fairly good shots with a compound .,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and............ fast too
new to the flock
I bow fish in the spring season for pike and yes the fish are kept and eaten. However I also bow fish for carp and suckers in certain waters where they have been destroying the lake vegitation and need to be thinnned out. Carp are the wosrt as they will root the vegitation out of the bottom just like a hog destroying the habitat for other game fish. In some areas these fish are not fit for human consumption due to heavy metals, and are turned into fertilizer. In other areas the fish are eaten or given to those that like to eat them, we have several ethnic groups that find them a delicacy. It is illegel to sell game or fish here. Bow fishing is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening and is very much like rabbit stalking. It takes alot of practise and skill and is no different than any other form of hunting. Cranfield
Bow fishing is a recognised and controlled sport in many countries. The fish in this video are an imported species of carp that are plentiful and have taken over some waterways. They are officially declared a "pest species", as they are in Australia, it is an offence to catch them and not kill them. Lets seek to understand what we see, before condemning it. malkiserow
There was a chap doing this off the bank on the river Otter in Devon the other week. Ummmm I thought .... not sure this is legal in the UK. He was as bold as bold can be not caring for the walkers watching him. I am sure bow hunting is illegal here but bow fishing? I guess it is illegal but put this up to get opinions.... Malk

Muddy Funker
It is funny how other countries see carp. I love fishing for them and wouldn't dream of harming one lol B) I'm not knocking people from other countries doing that though its just a different way. No one would get away with doing that in front of me here though
Muddy Funker
Ok should've watched the video before commenting, they don't look like any carp i've seen before haha. Looks like fun though, they should break out the shotguns
