Who can vote in this country

We have just had a letter through from the local Electoral Register to update the names of people eligible to vote in our house

With it came a leaflet basically saying who is eligible to vote

You don't have to be a British Citizen, ANYONE from the following countries is entitled to vote in the UK

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Holland, Poland, Portugal, Ireland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Anguilla, Bermuda, British Antarctic Territory, British Indian Ocean Territory, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Monserrat, Pitcairn Island, Henderson Island, Dulcie Island, Oeno Island, St Helena, Ascension Island, Tristan de Cunha, South Georgia, South Sandwich Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands, Virgin Islands, Antigua and Barbuda, Canada, Kenya, Nauru, St Vincent and Grenadines, Tonga, Australia, Dominica, Kiribati, New Zealand, Samoa, Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas, Fiji, Lesotho, Nigeria, Seychelles, Tuvalu, Bangladesh, Gambia, Malawi, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Barbados, Ghana, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Belize, Grenada, Malta, Cyprus, Solomon Islands, Tanzania, Botswana, Guyana, Mauritius, Rwanda, South Africa, Vanuatu, Brunei, India, Mozambique, St Christopher and Nevis, Sri Lanka, Zambia, Cameroon, Jamaica, Namibia, St Lucia, Swaziland, and last but not least Zimbawbe.

I was SHOCKED! Is it any wonder we are in the state we are in. When did this happen? This has all the hallmarks of Labour vote rigging sometime in the past because I can't imagine anyone from Namibia is ever going to vote conservative.   This has got to get raised as an issue.

Whats even more amazing is the form doesn't even require you to provide any proof of who you are and where you come from you just write a name, and where you allegedly come from and post it off. There is no form of checking.

I suppose this has it roots in our old empire and the apologists trying to make amends!

How many of those countries would let you or me vote in their elections?  Its blatent vote rigging pure and simple, although they will no doubt try to say all sorts of excuses. Its not fit for purpose

I know my mother's Hungarian carer and her husband both voted in the EU referendum because she told me so quite openly. They were sent cards, they went along and they voted.  How many others did too? Millions I suspect

We had the Birmingham vote rigging scandal where thousands of non existent voters were registered and then given postal votes, strangely they all voted the same way.

Are we so ******* stupid that we are prepared to put up with this?

Residents from the countries listed maybe able to vote in local elections if they are listed on the electoral register. They are not allowed to vote in a national referendum or in the general election.

The introduction of individual electoral registration in England and Wales in June 2014 and in Scotland in September 2014. The Commission first recommended this change in 2003 and continued to push the UK Government to bring it into law. Parliament first legislated for this under the Labour government in 2009, and this was accelerated by legislation introduced by the Coalition government in 2013. Implementation has been a significant step in limiting the scope for electoral fraud. Under this system, EROs are required to verify electors’ National Insurance numbers and dates of birth against data held by the Department for Work and Pensions Customer Information System before they can be registered. This means that it is now much harder (although not impossible) to create false or fictitious electoral register entries, which could be used to commit personation, either by post or in person, as an elector or as a proxy, or to commit identity or financial fraud.

You must have a very big house to fit that lot in.

So... If I unerstand that correctly I could claim to have say four other people living in our house and get four extra votes to cheat the system!

I've often wondered why so many people seem to be voting for some of the thicker candidates in the Labour party.

That is what happened in the Birmingham postal votes scandal and allegedly in Bethnal Green too. Its the tip of the iceberg though. The reluctance to investigate it suggests the authorities know its a can of worms and don't want to open the lid on it.

The suggestion is its been going on for years, when Maggie introduced the Poll tax, the idea was your Council Tax would be based on the number of people registered to vote in your house. The left wing went ballistic and massive highly coordinated riots ensued. You have to question why they were so opposed to it ? On the face of it the Poll Tax was much fairer than the previous Rates system it was set to replace.

Thank you for that, so our voting system is a total joke anyway. I've felt for years its a waste of time voting in Leicester because Keith Vazeline is always going to win.

I saw the anti poll tax fury 1st hand when I was contracting. A young woman in the office was shouting spite about it and I asked her what the problem was. Turned out she was 23 and still living at home with her 2 older brothers and both parents in the family council house. The previous year their rates had been £150 but under poll tax they'd have to stump up £1,500. When I asked her how she felt about my elderly neighbour, living alone in her 3 bed bungalow and paying rates of £900 which would now go down to £300, she thought for a moment then announced that old people shouldn't be allowed to live alone in family sized houses. I felt like saying that under that reasoning 5 adults shouldn't be living in a council house meant for young families either but Hey Ho It doesn't do to upset the customer's staff.
