Ayagunner
Its my main choice for a goose load, have killed a lot of geese with them, and missed them as well but that's just me not doing my part
Ayagunner
I took a american cousin of mine out wildfowling and he said that the style of shooting was crazy, it was on a evening tide flight in a northerly gale, had virtually lead him off the marsh by his hand

Ayagunner
Had my aya no3 magnum since 1977 which I have now had to retire, also had 391 Beretta but the old aya is always the go to gun, the missus got me a Browning gold 10 for my birthday, its still in the cabinet unfired lol

Ayagunner
Glad to have been a bit of help, have heard good reports about the eley lighting as nic posted but have never used them as I bought the mammoth in bulk, best I could suggest is to do some pattern tests to see which works best with your gun mate

Of course a 36 gram no.1 is a goose cartridge!

Ayagunner
Its vastly different over in the states, most of our style of shooting wildfowl they class as skybusting

figgy
I prefer the Gamebore to the Eley Lightening, both do the job just my preference on the felt recoil. News to me that they have stopped making the Number 1 size shot carts. That's just giving business away.
nic
may have to pop to my local store and pick up a box or
motty
Reloading is the way forward. Then you have exactly the cartridge you want, and don't have to rely on what shops may stock.
Gerry78
3inch all you need for geese ive shot my fair share of geese with gamebore 3inch steel have also shot and killed geese with 2 3/4 duck cartridges aiming for there heads at reasonable ranges i just find a brand of cartridges i like and stock up too lazy to reload 😉

I wouldn't be comfortable firing at a 60 yard pink with a standard 2 3/4" steel load.
figgy
Think most of us have been caught with the wrong cart inwhen birds appear and shot some surprising stuff with 23/4 and 3” but where I shoot the geese are staying at the edge of range last couple of seasons due to ground sea wall works. May need 3” even for ducks this season if they won’t come right in. i agree with Motty reloading gives more options for 3”
PPP
Thanks fellas, these burds won’t be super high based in tonight’s recon, no more than a sensible Pheasant so maybe 40 yArds, will try 36 no1
figgy
Let us know how you and your carts got on.
Gerry78
Yes agree motty would only take a shot at geese with 2 3/4 at close range your also right reloading gives you more options 👍
