NoBodyImportant
Almost all birds are not huntable until fall and winter here in the states. I’m itching to shoot something but I’m months out until hunting season. Clays are not scratching the itch.
old man
All birds are protected here, we used to have a General Licence which specified exceptions till a legal challenge caused a recent catastrophic licence withdrawal in England. Maybe read about it in General Shooting Matters? Edited May 6, 2019 by old man
NoBodyImportant
Yea I was wondering about that. I read up on it. But was there a certain season?
panoma1
Our game and wildfowl seasons are in the Autumn (fall) and winter months, they vary, Grouse start 12 August, coastal Wildfowling finishes on 20 February.....so we have some shooting (for various game species) between those dates....our game shooting is on privately owned land and paid for by the shooter.....there is no free shooting areas in England and Wales, it is all controlled in one way or another by landowners, some coastal Wildfowling in England and Wales is leased off the owner of the land (some off the crown or their agents) and controlled by the local club....there is free coastal Wildfowling in Scotland. As OM said we had year round shooting for pigeon control under a General licence administrated by Natural England (NE) a government appointed quango, until a recent legal challenge (in England, it does not affect Wales or Scotland) and the regulatory authorities withdrew the licences, without notice or consultation, with just two days notice! That is where we are now! Unable to control wood pigeon (a major agricultural pest in the UK) Corvids and some other non native and "pest" species....there is a big row going on at the moment and the government have stepped in to try and sort the chaos out! Harnser
You may be interested to know that we can shoot deer all the year round . Thats because the the bucks and does have different seasons . We all so have non indigenous deer that can be shot all year round with out a season .all wild fowl have a season except Canada geese that can be shot all year round . There are no bag limits and you can shoot what you want . You are not allowed to offer wild geese for sale . This is to stop the market gunning that used to go on ,mainly in Scotland . harnser
NoBodyImportant
Thanks for the information. We have a season on almost everything. Pest are open year around, coyote, armadillo, prairie dogs ect..... Some counties will pay bounties. We have a massive hog problem here.
