figgy
Why do we need stiffer penalties in law? What we need is the current maximum penalties dished out. Maximum penalty is 20k fine and or six month in jail. Seems stiff enough to me.
McSpredder
Is this all about pussycats and lap-dogs, or will it include working animals (guide dogs, gun dogs, sheep dogs, guard dogs, etc)? Will police be expected to spend more time investigating loss of a hamster than the theft of a FTCh?

Dogs to many are more than a possession, while 6months inside is enough for theft of belongings, its not nearly enough for the hart ache caused by the callous theft of what to many is virtually a member of the family. To the op, petition signed.
