I have noticed that lately there have been a number of posts from the ex military types among us, and was wondering out of idle curiosity what range of services/capbadges are represented on the forums.

I'll kick it off (try not to boo too loud when I say this B) )

Royal Corps of Signals and then Intelligence Corps for me....

PS, I have heard about every joke about the words Army and Intelligence not going together out there so dont bother lol

Anyone else care to spill?

My old man was in the Royal Corps of Signals B) in WW2. He was in Burma. Unfortunately the old boy died last year at 95 but he was always very proud of his time in the Signals

Smokinbarrels, dont worry, my old man was a RAF fireman in the 50's (says he spent most of his time asleep in the fire engine at the end of the runway though :drinks: )

Mrs D2D was in the RAF and spent 78-80 at Waddington, one winter she was keeping the emergency runway clear of snow for the Vulcan bombers with flame throwers (sygard) mounted on the front of old RLs, each time they got to the end of the(very long) runway they had to have a tot of rum :) from the MO, by the end of the shift she was frozen solid, she laughs about it still.

She and her mates were sometimes taken up in the Vulcans..... young impressionable girls eh, cant trust those Raf types.

:drinks: D2D

One of the guys in my office was a former Vulcan/Victor pilot, so you never know :drinks:

Still, unless any of your kids make wierd yelping noises in place of laughter and have a penchant for vintage racing cars I wouldnt worry too much :)

Don't know, mate, he didn't talk much about Burma. The only thing you could really get him talking about was India, he was hospitalised at Dehra Dun for quite a while and when he was recuperating, he saw quite a bit of India and really enjoyed it :drinks:

If you are interested in finding out about what his unit did the R Sigs Museum at Blandford, Dorset might be able to help (see link)

Joined up in '86 in the Royal Artillery, trained on Guns, then went Air Defence on Rapier, then transferred to the Monkeys (Royal Military Police) and left in '94 to join my current shower. The monkeys were (far) more professional despite the reputation. I'll be honest, I miss it. I tried to rejoin but had an injury and couldn't get back in. Mates that are still in are approaching their 22 and WOs or commissioned.

Ex Royal Artillery: 1988 - 1994 Served with 45 Regt (West Yorks) & 4 Regt (Geordies) RA.

Stationed in England, Germany, N Ireland, Germany, N Ireland, Germany, N Ireland & finally, back to Germany.... It was at this time that 'voices' in my head told me to naff off and do something else, instead.

Thanks for the link, I'll look them up. I didn't realise there was a Sigs Museum and sadly, I don't think he did either :drinks:
