Chezney
Hi all, just a bit of advice wanted as putting duck sown for the first time this year on three ponds, 250 total. My few questions are: Can I just release them, or do I need a pen? shall I provide an artificial island on the ponds that don’t have one? Whats the best method/type of feeding for ease of management and willingness to fly? cheers
TIDES EDGE
5 weeks is a bit young 7 is better we just put ours on the ponds with a heap of food on a flat bank next to the water for the first few weeks then start to feed them further and further away untill they are flying out for the food. none of our ponds have islands. rapid .25
We put 250 down last year and lost 74 on the first night to mink, took the rest up the following day and put them into a barn for a further 6 weeks, expensive lesson learned. Outlander
We do exactly the same as tides edge does with his, make sure they have plenty of feed as they will soon wander if they don't....

FOXHUNTER1
Reared duck are not very sporting thats if you can actually get them to fly. Then they often just circle ..much better flighting wild duck 👍

FOXHUNTER1
Dont get me wrong I have seen them fly great and extremely high but this is the exception rather than the rule. They are often like the ducks on the local park pond🤣
