It was ever thus. If you remember a period when it wasn't, I put it to you, that you were in that glorious period between being old enough to understand some of the world around you, but having better things to keep you occupied when the news came on, like the toys in your bedroom. Say between the ages of 8 and 12. Though I will say, as a 90s child, there was that period after the fall of the Berlin wall but before 9/11 when we stopped being scared of Nuclear Armageddon but before we were all convinced some ejiot shouting 'Alans snack-bar!' was going to blow himself and us all up. There didn't seem to be a good means of keeping the population terrified then. Indeed, the more specialist engineering/energy journals have been harping on about this for years, but still the mainstream media will barely report on it, or if they do, dumb it down to the point of uselessness. 14 hours ago, Dougy said: Very true, I have staff at work who are still counting the dead. I suppose that in turn gets directed at me as their manager. They come in stressed out and become individual Tanzanian devil's. Are they similar to Tasmanian Devils? 😂 Anyway, regardless of whether these devils are African or Australian in origin, they cannot be taking their neurosis to work with them and allowing it to affect the team. We're 18 months in to this. Time to take a dose of man up. If it hasn't killed you yet, it likely won't unless and until it mutates into something actually dangerous to people. I think we've just hit on why team management isn't my strong point
bavarianbrit
The price gouging taking place on shipping container rates from China seems to be causing much of the knock on effect to every product we need.

(No idea where that spelling came from) The problem is you cant tell someone on medication for anxiety to "Man up" i have to manage them and there lies the problem. The jobs given me a life style better than the previous career i had, so need to accept the rough with the smooth as they say. But certianly wont be stopping any longer than i need to. So upping my pension contributions for the short time im stopping, so in my mind, I'm using and abusing the company as best as i can while im still there. Looking at dropping hours to my bare minimum to keep bills paid, but that’s it. I’m giving up a good secure wage, but my mental health takes priority. I currently hate my job. Not surprised, a thankless job for sure. Take care.
shalfordninja33
Yes the last few months have been pretty draining on the work front. I work in printing and the real problems started when one of Europes largest paper manufacturers announced in April that they were pulling out of the market which caused a run on the other manufacturers stocks, lead times when out and prices increased. Work suddenly picked up from H2, taking in lots of orders, but we're struggling with availability of materials, vehicles to move product, casual and skilled labour. Our energy costs have increased nearly fivefold since January which is being passed back to customers now by way of a surcharge, if it's not agreed prior to production we don't produce the job, any future work is being taken on subject to final material and production price at a time of production. We can't offer any forward visibility of pricing, very draining circumstances to operate in. I try to finish each day with fewer challenges than I started with, that and I accept that I try my best, if that's not good enough for other people so be it. Imperfection
Back in late 2019 i suffered four strokes (at 49 years old) which have left their legacy like memory loss, lack of concentration plus a number of physical problems. I lost my driving licence too which was hard because i drive for a living. I got my licence back after a month though. Then in 2020 the virus shut the world down. However,i take after my dad and my glass is always half full-never half empty and i look for a positive outcome to everything. It gave me an excuse to slow it down...which my employer isn't too happy about. 😉
