One of the ways you can tell how cheap is when they are using the stethoscope to listen for German activity. If you look closely, the end of the stethoscope is a brown Bakelite electrical junction box. My grandfather was in a tunnelling company and let slip the odd story that sounded unbelievable. If memory serves, the whole thing was an official secret until 1963, or something of the sort.
