Have the party whip's just been cancelled?

Am I being naive to think the job of party whips is to cajole or persuade wayward members with any means possible to support their party if the whip is called up?

In theory a whip cannot tell an MP how to vote. The whip can ONLY tell the MP that "important divisions are to take place" on such and such a date.

..... and, of course, suggest that a seat on such and such committee may soon be coming up or that a fact finding trip to St Lucia may be in the offing, or that they are are aware of his gambling debts and his mistress and wouldn't it be a shame if the Daily Mail were tipped off.

Hello, that's a strange title to work in parliament , lots of talk about whips whipping certain MPs to toe the line🤔 and what about the underhanded threats ?

I feel that if i was interested I could dispute that that was any sort of meaningful earned qualification but not having that interest............................................................................too..🐗ed.

Sadly for me that means nothing of relevance to any qualification for the post other than a will to join the expense exploiters.
