Look at any of the small guesthouses and avoid the hotels. You will get great personal service and avoid the crowded restaurants. We did a few days at Norbreck Castle a few years ago with the grandchildren and it was truly awful.

take a load of two pence and let them loose on the arcades if the weather is bad. Tower and circus brilliant.

Just now, Mice! said:

We are 30 - 40 mins away and I just don't se the appeal of the illuminations,  we did it a few years back and I was far from impressed,  but if you're going for the pleasure Beach/ zoo and there anyway then fair enough.

to be honest I'm not bothered but the missus wants to take the kids and I want a quiet life. 😁

See about a Caravan?? We used to get the Sun Deals and take the kids up there for a weekend just before they finish although you had to be extremely lucky with the weather. There are tram passes that you can buy.

For me it was a tradition thing - My Grandparents used to have a Caravan at the Calor Gran (?) in Fleetwood and I would be up there several times a year growing up - this was back when they had gas mantles for lighting
