Dennis Stepney was buried today in a quiet service, as he requested. He had been ill for some time and will be missed by a lot of people in the shooting world. A sad day.

I had a nasty feeling which proved to be right when I opened your post. I had asked but can appreciate from your words why I was not told when the funeral was to be. I've known Dennis since he was at Nynehead and it was always a pleasure and a privilege to be invited into the workshop and watch while he worked his magic. He kept his eye on PW and always knew when I'd posted something - witnessed by the gift of the current polo shirts - and he was kind enough to remark that my comments were in part responsible for UKGR's success. Rubbish, of course but nice to hear, because this was largely down to his incomparable skill and absolutely charming manner.

His character will be missed by everyone who met him and his skill similarly throughout the UK and beyond.

Dennis, may you rest in peace.
