I took a gamble on a small field of rape on Tuesday morning that I’d seen a few birds sat in the trees on the way home from work. I got set up in the dark with just a magnet and had a nice couple of hours shooting. I missed a few I wouldn’t normally miss but I was using my fairly new to me 20g O/U Hushpower. I ended up with 26 pigeons.

That's not bad for a couple of hours shooting, well done. :good:

I am struggling at the minute to find anything, even had a couple of early mornings starts but nothing exciting, are you seeing any numbers?

I had a drive around today after feeding the pheasants and saw good numbers sat in the trees around a few of the areas of rape I’ve got so they are definitely starting to make the switch over from the acorns. I may have a go in a couple of days on one block I watched today.

A very nice bag in the time frame and some of the first ones I have heard about that have been shot over rape , I would imagine there are more game birds and wildfowl shot at this time of the year than Pigeons , maybe Woodcock exclueded .

Should see more reports early next year when the shooting season draw to a close which will see more land become available and the food supply get thin on the ground , plus more people looking for some sport .

Look like a few late hatching youngsters in the photo , at one time we thought the dark ones and those with no neck bars were from overseas that turned up in the Winter months , now I don't think this is no longer the case .

Yes there were a few youngsters amongst them, a sign of a mild winter and plenty of food I suppose. I’m planning on having my first go on the rape on Monday so hopefully a decent report will follow

I thought that 20g was a single, doesn't look that much wider than my old hushpower 12g single from back around 2005.

Things have certainly moved on.

Great post bb. 👍

It looks heavy and cumbersome but it actually comes up really well. It’s stupidly quiet as well even with standard cartridges

As seems to be the  norm, I'm struggling to find any birds, but then everywhere is 3 inch high wheat and a bit of grass. There is a couple of small wooded/copse area for roosters. I had the exact same Hushpower, but found it heavy, but a nicer handling weapon than the Mossberg. I now just have a single shot Pedretti fully moderated 20 bore. I've added some height to the comb to lift the point of impact. It was shooting very low, this rather basic modification and the fact that it is lighter has given it a permanent place in my cabinet, allowing for some more discreet outings. We'll done on your excursion, respect to anyone who does well with a Husher, especially a new one. Cheers for sharing.
