wisdom
We called it splits no one ever bothered us it was normal play. Sheath knife on the belt most days in the summer holidays.
enfieldspares
I am guessing one of Rodgers, Taylors or Thompson? We also, yes, played splits at school, and indeed with knives. Nowadays it's not the lack of a knife that would be the issue but the lack of any grass playing surface! dipper
Knives. They were mostly cheap knives with tin handles that usually fell off. Knives were my obsession I had 6 sheath knives and I got quite good at throwing them at about 15 feet at a door on a old building.was out one day throwing them I looked round and stood behind me was a Bobby. He said I’d better take them off you I was gutted. Also had a switch blade.

wisdom
Not forgetting the folding pocket knife with "Africa" on it and a picture of an elephant. Most newsagents and hardware shops stocked them.It was certainly a different country back in my childhood days.
