shawn9914
A farm i shoot on needs to cull some canada geese, due to the nature of where they are a shotgun is not really suitable due to the noise Would a 22LR with subs despatch them cleanly or would I be better with a 17HMR Thanks

steve_b_wales
Following on to the thread a few months ago, I personally would not use a .22LR unless using HV ammunition, but then you have to noise to contend with. On one of my permissions, I dealt with many Canada's using my .22 Hornet(noise wasn't an issue) at 60 -80 yards. Some were head shot but the majority were chest shot. Even hmr is marginal in my view unless head shot.
Stonepark
22lr Subs grouping at an inch at 50 yards are fine and will drop them every time with a head shot and also with a heart\lung shot. 100ftlbs, accurately placed is way more than required given those who shoot at them with BB shot are only putting 2 to 3 random pellets into them at 10ftlbs each or 3-4 No1 at 6ftlbs each. London Best
.22lr subs will kill Canada geese all day long, as Stonepark says. In the head/neck a single pellet of No.6 shot kills them stone dead with only about 1.5 ft lb remaining energy.
