what size thread?

Get someone who actually knows how to measure threads to measure it for you.  You need a mechanical engineer, preferably a toolmaker, or a model engineer who knows what he is talking about.
You need to measure the outside diameter accurately (micrometer) and accurately measure the threads per inch, or the pitch of the threads if metric. It could be either metric or imperial measurements.
This needs doing properly!

Hello, this came up, 1/2 X 28 Tpi 🤔              folks thanks for reply's,but as you can see it measures 5/8 x 5/8 inch, iv seen the term 5/8 UNF on some websites selling the wildcat evolution (thats the mod im after) so would  that be the term /thread size i quote when ordering the mod?

Hello, is that from your local RFD ? If online it will need go RFD to RFD , if your set on the wildcat mod ok but I would also look at getting and adapter made to half inch UNF

Savage threading is normally 5/8 by 24

thanks,so when ordering ill just quote that thread size then,i know its not half inch by the measuring tape,it is 5/8,im just wondering is length a factor?

Most common US sizes are 1/2x28, 9/16 x24, 5/8x24.

There is 3mm difference between each size in diameter which is easily identifiable in your photo no 1, being 5/8.

In photo 2 you are showing 12 threads for a length of 1/2 of an inch thread length, hence 24tpi.

Length is not a factor as the mods are threaded longer to screw up tight against the barrel step.

It’s 5/8th. I have a wildcat bridge here in that size if you need one.

It’s 5/8th unef (24tpi)

I have a wildcat bridge here in 5/8 unf which is 18tpi and can’t for the life of me, remember why I have it.

thanks very much jaymo, ill be ordering the mod next week, ill be stating thread size 5/8 unef 24tpi,if i have any problems, ill get back to you on that bridge, thanks

Like I said in the first reply: you needed somebody who actually knew what he was looking at. You cannot measure threads with a tape measure and get an accurate answer.

well i did it with a tape measure,it was 11/16 x24 tpi, which equates to 18x1 metric......now although i was not 100% sure,i checked over and over again,i knew it was not 14x1,,so i did take the chance and ordered the 18x1,if i had been wrong,i would have then took it to a gun smith and have it done properly, and then bought the size bridge, but it fits,so im happy

11/16 x24 tip is NOT 18x1 metric.

11/16 inch = 17.4625 mm, not 18.

24 tip is two thousandth of an inch more than 1 mm pitch.

Unified threads have a slightly different thread form to metric, on the crests and roots.

An 18x1 nut would screw onto an 11/16 x24 spigot for a very short length, but not the other way round.
It is certainly not good enough fit for a rifle moderator, which needs to be perfect.

I spent my entire working life making precision threads.

I rest my case.
