At that time we had a factory that processed it, and it was a good money earner. Some of the local diggers had licenses from British Rail to dig on embankments and cuttings. Our verges are full of it.
Walker570
We always had some growing in the veg garden. The production was about the sane. Always fresh made the morning , probably Sunday for roast beef lunch. I now buy a mix of mustard and horseradish commercially from Stokea Sauces which is pretty good stuff. Nothing better than rare roast rib of beef served cold the next day with horesradish in a sandwich so strong your eyes water. I sometimes buy it when at Versailles. Sold as "raifort" there in France. JohnfromUK
My parents had it growing on what was almost waste ground. We tended to use 'boughten' as making it was not the nicest task as it does bring tears to your eyes - much worse than onions for that. I use Morrisons 'hot' horseradish as a favourite. Also nice (in small quantities) in coleslaw and when 'perking up' mayo for having with cold seafood.
