A session on laid barley.

I posted a picture of a field of barley that had gone flat on 13th June. Only in the past few days have pigeons been getting on in any numbers.

I arranged to meet my old shooting companion this afternoon for a shot or two. He is self employed and it is quite amazing how he never has work on a Friday afternoon, usually using the time valuably by looking for pigeons.

As I had found the field and obtained permission I chose where we should set up. He was not happy with the long walk. He should try being seventy years of age.

We had the wind and sun at our backs and a large laid patch 30m out in front of us and two rotaries. Perfect.

In the first nine minutes we shot 5 each. We had 60 on the clicker in the first hour, 140 in total in the second hour and we packed up after three and a quarter hours with 210 in the bag.

..... and before anyone asks yes I did run out of cartridges. Thankfully my companion had an extra slab in his car.

Wow - Awesome bag - well done !!!!  😃

How did you find picking-up after, do you have dogs ??  Been told that dogs and barley (maybe wheat too) don't work to well together ??

Anyway, big congrats 👍

Big bags are now coming in at a steady rate after some really lean months , your bag on laid barley was a superb bag and I only wished we had some , after last weeks Yellow weather warning for heavy thunder storms I would had bet a pound to a penny we would had some knocked about as this year it is taller than the last few years , at the end of the day this wasn't to be as it missed us and we only got 7 mil of rain , the man above who live in the North of the county might had fared a lot better as it reported in the paper that Kings Lynn and Hunstanton had a few roads flooded while down in the South of the county we barely had enough to water the garden .

As already said Mr JDog , how was the picking up and what was it like carrying the bag back in the heat ?

WELL DONE to the both of you     MM

Wow, now that’s what you call a busy spell Jdog…..pigeons seem to be coming out of the woodwork in numbers all of a sudden don’t they! That’s some going in such a short space of time.
I’ve had some great days on flattened barley but yet to go over 200. The only thing I don’t envy is having to carry them any distance let alone having to try and pick them!
