Just picked up on your post JDog and I wonder if the Humming bird moths are predominantly attracted to red as this was on my red valerian recently.

Purple seems to be the colour of choice. Valerian may be considered to be purple. Whatever colour it is Valerian is the best HHM attractor in my experience.
