Friend was out fishing so I asked him to keep me a few mackerel for dinner if he had some. Came in with about 50 spare and a pollock about 5lb. Had plenty ty of takers for the fresh mackerel as long as they came gutted and beheaded. Got two nights dinner and froze a good few too for pike fishing or mink trap bait.

Tomato salad with cucumber & onions all from the green house.Mostly cherry tomatoes but also some larger Black Russians.

Maybe some of our Scotch friends have heard the same .

When I was a young boy I used to go on the Scotch Herring drifters when they came into Yarmouth to unload there catch of Herring , I would be on the deck watching the crew members scopping the fish into baskets and then they were hauled up and tipped into bigger baskets on the quayside . If I spotted a Mackerel in the hold I would point it out and one of the blokes would chuck it up to me , I was always told that the Scotch fishermen were Supertitious of having Mackerel on board .

Can anyone confirm weather this is a true fact ?    THANKS .

soooooooooooo   nice

just really simple tasty food

That sounds lovely. Have never caught herring and very rarely have had one that I would consider to be very fresh but would love to get a few some day.

This is what they were feeding on.

like your misses I used to buy some Herring off the little inshore boats , they were always a pound for what ever quantity they were selling , it was always around a dozen , sometimes if they had a few boxes you might get 15 for a quid , then if they only had the odd box it might then be 10 but never less than 10 , cheap meal if you didn't mind the smell in the kitchen , the last ones I had were what the Hembsy lifeboat crew done at the Maritime festival on the quay side , £1.50 for the Herring , rows and a roll with a drop of fresh Lemon splashed over , now that some beating .

Where did you develop this liking?

Boarding school, the army, prison or Africa?

milts are very good for you....they contain essential oils...to ensure continuing good health......dont know why young kids turn their nose up at them....especially after what they are used to
