flippermaj
I am not usually one for starting so early, always shoot the last day but rarely the first week. Anyway, the tide and wind were good for a potential afternoon teal flight so as I had the time I thought why not even though there will not be many about yet. I always hold out that if there are no teal the pigeons usually oblige along a marsh flightline. As expected not too many about and they only moved on the last hour at the top of the tide. Nice to see them about and managed 3 plus a bonus pigeon.

marsh man
Nice start for you and your dog , Teal are never about in any numbers this time of year on the estuary although the flight ponds that are scattered about would draw a few in , yesterday morning I went down the marsh a bit earlier than normal ( no gun , just my dog ) and although the flight was over I never heard a single shot anywhere , at one time when they grew crops on the marsh you could always get some shooting at Pigeons when they started to leave the woods a little after six , now with no crops the Pigeons have moved to a more productive area , so if no duck about then your gun will keep clean . flippermaj
Hi Krico, It's not a Winchester, it's a AYA Yeaoman 2.75 inch chamber beavertail pistol grip 28 inch barrels. I am trying some home load TSS for the geese with it this season although shot a good few with it on standard steel loads in the past. Ditchman, Teal are delicious, probably the best of the duck to eat though a little small!
Gas seal
Hi flippermaj good start for the season. I’ve owned aya shotguns one looked like yours it was a matador, 2.75 chamber 28 inch barrels ,ejector, .single trigger ,pistol grip stock , beaver tail fore end. I also owned the 10 gauge matador . My friend has a yoman it is straight hand stock with a&d forend. It’s over twenty five years since l used side by side or ten or twelve gauge but the aya were good guns

Hi marsh man, myself and another lad out on 1st morning, we had a good start, in a corner till around 9 o clock, bit of grub, then went and hunted out heavy rushy / reeds / Sally corners with 2 Springers. Gathered up another few . Then home got the dinner, and plucked and cleaned the ducks. Evening flight was poor, flat calm, summer evening with a full moon, ducks didn't really move. Shot one drake. Haven't been at them since, cause it's so warm a and sunny, shot pigeons Saturday and Sunday. 19 hours ago, flippermaj said: Hi Krico, It's not a Winchester, it's a AYA Yeaoman 2.75 inch chamber beavertail pistol grip 28 inch barrels. Oh my mistake, from the picture it looks like a Winchester 23.. and yes teal are delicious, especially later on in season when they are like little fat balls

The weather at the moment is about as far as you can get when it come to wildfowling , it have been very hot today and the weather man said it was going to increase at least one degree each day with the peak getting into the 30s by the weekend , add that with more people than ever walking around the edge of the estuary and waiting with camera's to take photos of the sunset ,you can understand why the appeal of early season shooting is no longer as strong as it once was . MM No salt air where I am marsh man, but it was lovely foggy morning till after daylight, and it was nice to hear first few mallard quaking, and chuckling, in flight, rip of wings cutting the air, then to appear. That's magic enough for me. Luckily I don't have to contend with holiday makers either. But that hot sunny balmy summer weather is not for duck shooting. But anyway the season is here now, so when a bit of a breeze picks up and it gets below 20° I'll head out again.
