Heads up , Ukraine war film

Please dont get this shut down discussing the whys and wherefores of the Ukraine war/invasion.

The film is called Sniper White Raven, and can be found on Prime and err, other ways.

Its excellently made and starts just before Maidan in 2014, charting a physics teachers transformation from eco warrior to battle weary sniper.
Its made by the Ukrainian film industry and is subtitled, fairly technically accurate and not too political.

Thoroughly enjoyed it, and makes certain Hollywood sniper films with huge budgets look rather silly.

That's a hell of a distance, hope it's not too morbid, can I ask what calibre and rifle?

The truth is, no one actually knows. It won't ever be confirmed, and we only have the word of the person who now holds the record.

If he did make the shot, then that is some shooting.

But my guess is, it is probably what a Cockney does when having a good look.

You wonder as well of an element of luck comes into it. Fire enough rounds and some will hit the target even at these ranges.

Watched the film last night 👍 It was alright. What does amaze me is how anyone can stay still for so long. If I wait in ambush for anything I am a constant fidget i would make an easy target.

Thats why not just anyone can be a sniper, takes a certain mindset.
Imagine a whole company of snipers, able to pull off consistent 2 km shots, no infantry advances would be possible without heavy losses over a defined area ?
Most of us who shoot can pull off good accurate shots, but patience and stress management (as depicted in the film) are key qualities.
What set the hero of the film apart, was his ability to calculate ballistics quickly, due to his physics knowledge, and his burning desire to rectify the wrongs.

I bought ‘Out of Nowhere: a history of the military sniper’ some years ago. 
It’s a very good read if you’re into that sort of thing, and relates examples and accounts from the onset of sniping up to Afghanistan. 
I believe women are often the most successful snipers as they have the capacity for endless patience.
Female Russian snipers accounted for many many Germans during WWII.
