We used to have a BASC representative called David some years ago....................................

So we did, just shows you how much I notice.  He must have given up on us. He was here for years taking flak.   Not much changes

I remember BASC David posting. It was my attempt at humour which I should have followed up with an emoji to indicate. On reflection I hope the poster involved ,Scolopax I think ,was not not offended by my remarks.

I think he was trying to be humorous, too.

I see you are deliberately stoking this one up also. Have you anything of substance to add to this thread?

Conor, this is an OPEN Forum. You have previously accused me of being personal, I am not.

I have

I saw in the podcast about shooting deer with copper instead of lead so it can safely enter the food chain

could you please tell us if it’s a requirement to shoot non lead bullets on the land held by Basc for shooting deer or is it voluntary

also I’m aware that you should have a shotgun proof for HP steel do you need any extra proof test for your rifle and or moderator for shooting the copper bullets

So there have been no new comments on this thread since yesterday morning. You have just posted in the other thread "Start the countdown.............................................." and then posted in this thread "Well if the BASC representatives can't take it". That's trolling plain and simple. Give it a rest please and add some substance. You are better than that.

What are you hoping for with comments like "start the countdown" and "Well if the BASC representatives can't take it"? Trolling plain and simple. And it's far from the first time. Please add something of substance and I would be happy to help. But I am calling you out on this.

I took Scolopax to task because he mistakenly thought you were David from BASC who gave up after taking flak for a long time.

I posted "Start the Countdown" as I was waiting for the thread to get shut down like the other one was. At least it is still going and Members are able to post questions and comments.

I must say I did enjoy the England Ladies Rugby Team stuffing the French.

Thank you for the reply however in my world instead of passing the buck to another member of staff

the correct answer or response is

sorry I don’t know or have the relevant information available at the moment but I will find out and get back to you as soon as I know the answer

all my staff are briefed on this it’s part of learning the skills of the job along with the team building process

it also gives the client confidence that the staff members are working together and that they are trying to get the issues resolved along with broadening their understanding and knowledge

just my view on it

I'm sure they will but may not comment. I thought your enquiry was just general info on non lead centrefire, apologies

A quick look online shows no mention of non-lead ammunition at the Lancashire or Hampshire sites. Arran (not currently available) may well be different by now as it is a FLS lease, and they are going lead free - most FLS venison goes into the trade of course.

I think admin closed the other thread because of the constant trolling .

Good question ,i would imagine they would leave it to the individual shooter.

The OP was about Q&As fielded by BASC staff at game fairs and other events and giving some examples of what BASC does for its members - so let's recap.

Here is the link to the full article:

https://basc.org.uk/what-have-the-romans-ever-done-for-us/

Here is the main text:

If you like your game shooting.

BASC provides free shoot briefings to our members, offering bespoke guidance and advice on a variety of subjects that are important to you. Our regional and country teams have undertaken more 1,000 briefings to date, so you may want to find out what you are missing out on.

Alternatively, it may be that your shoot was caught up in the Special Protection Area gamebird release debacle. We supported hundreds of shoots through this process, taking MPs out to see the impact the government decision was having, while BASC took legal action against the government to resolve the situation.

If you are concerned about the next generation of shooters.

Education and outreach is important to us, much of which is delivered through our BASC to School project. To give you a sense of the scale of it, in 2023 we reached 45,141 children and young people across the UK, with nearly 12,000 of these being introduced to game as an exciting, ethical and healthy food source.

We also encourage would-be shooters of all ages to come along to BASC events which provide opportunities for people to try their hand at a range of disciplines.

At bigger shows and game fairs, we also point people in the direction of our clay line, fully loaded with an enthusiastic gang of skilled BASC coaches ready to help people break that first clay in a safe and enjoyable lesson. In just three days at the Game Fair last year, we delivered 470 shotgun lessons and 461 airgun experiences.

Perhaps deer are your passion.

BASC runs deer management events by the catchy name of ‘Talking Stalking’ all over the country, allowing us to provide advice and answer questions face-to-face.

From an educational perspective, we are the largest provider of deer management training in the sector. And if you’re looking for shooting, we also run three stalking schemes, which provide an accessible route into stalking.

You would like to know how we represent you and influence policy makers.

We have worked on countless consultations and campaigns to date, all with the aim of influencing policy and change. These include last year’s Act Now movement concerning gamebird release in Wales, or our current Police Crime Commissioner campaign. You may be interested to know that we engaged with more than 427 key stakeholders last year.

To add to the depth of expertise present within BASC, we have employed two legal experts within our Conservation team who are constantly working on your behalf.

You may have concerns about firearms legislation.

BASC has a dedicated team of firearms specialists who have built up relationships with the local firearms police forces. We know how challenging backlogs and poor service can be, and our firearms team are here to help improved the service delivered to certificate holders. Last year we hosted 354 formal engagements with firearms licensing departments, as well as 183 engagements on police training events.

The firearms team are also a key resource for members questions, be it a technical query, or regarding firearms law and licensing.

You may believe the conservation message is not being heard.

Conservation and sustainable land management is weaved through all our work, from duck nest tube and bird box projects to large scale habitat improvement schemes funded by the BASC Wildlife Fund. Ultimately, we believe that shooters are the custodians of the countryside, and we continue to assist our members in delivering for conservation alongside their shooting, wherever that may be.

My old Bristol 12b club had great support from BASC for setting up constitution and rules system. Our view was if you believe in the sport you need someone to fight your corner with govt and its agencies. Bringing new blood into the sport is critical as I look around at a largely old age group of participants.

Sounds like its a free service for the good of shooting...Oh wait...

The BASC shotgun coaching line

… will be open to everyone for one-to-one lessons or experiences with a BASC coach.

Enjoy a lesson with a qualified coach and learn about eye dominance, safe gun handling, correct stance, gun fit, gun mount and how to hit a moving target. The fee includes the cost of cartridges, clay targets, eye and ear protection, and the loan of a shotgun and shooting vest.

If you have your own shotgun with you at the fair and you are experiencing problems with gun fit, please do come and chat with our coaches.

  • 16-year-olds and under: £10 for BASC members; £15 for non-members.
  • Adults: £15 for members; £20 for non-members.
  • As well as lessons, there will also be an opportunity for beginners and experienced shooters alike to shoot informally with a coach in our ‘shotgun experience’. £10 for 10 shots.

Try sustainable ammunition

Experience shooting with steel shot under the supervision of a qualified BASC shotgun coach. Experts will be on hand to answer questions. Open to anyone over the age of 16; ten shots for £10.

BASC Shotgun Safe Shot

The Safe Shot assessment was designed with the knowledgeable live quarry shooter in mind. Since the scheme launched at the CLA Game Fair in 1998, many people have taken the award and proudly wear their bronze Safe Shot pin on their shooting kit.

To be awarded the Safe Shot badge, you must complete:

  • a short multiple-choice question paper on safety;
  • an empty gun handling section, including crossing an obstacle; and
  • prove that you can load and fire the gun safely at a clay target from a shooting cage.

The Safe Shot assessment costs just £30 and takes 20 minutes of your time.

The BASC air rifle range

A ‘have a go’ shooting opportunity is open to everyone, with tuition from BASC coaches using some of the latest BSA air rifles. £3 for ten shots.
