I did think at first this was another wind up thread , how can anyone show as much hate for a pair of Pigeons nesting in there garden ? , we have 7/8 come into our garden everyday and although Pigeon shooting  have been my passion for most of my life my back garden would be a poorer place without them , we have got two trees but sadly they are not nesting in either of them at the moment , but they are more than welcome if they wish to .    MM

I personally can't believe someone who shoots live quarry, someone who should have respect for ALL wildlife, actually posted this on here as if it's normal behaviour !? It isn't, it just shows contempt and disrespect, not only for the humble wood pigeon, but also for other shooters ! Very bad form !!! 👎👎👎

Could've just let them be, and move the damn table !!! 🤦‍♂️

Totally agree with you John.

I love to see the humble pigeon in our garden and welcome him at every opportunity whether nesting or just visiting for a feed.

Most on here, I`m sure, would be the same.

Got to be a wind up.

As JKD rightly pointed out, this is illegal. I couldn’t give a toss about how clinical and bird unfriendly you wish your garden to be, I sincerely hope that you get reported for breaking the law. You clearly have no appreciation or respect whatsoever at all for the beauty of Columba Palumbus or nature in general by the sound of it.

However, this does sound like a wind up and if so, you have been most successful in winding up yours truly:hmm:

OB

🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤔

Don’t laugh but we have a problem.. Pigeons are now determined to nest in the cherry tree on our patio area.

it’s sending me daft, honestly I absolutely detest them, hate them!! If they stay away from me and my property then I can just about tolerate them flying over or sometimes landing on the house roof, but not in my garden…. I usually bang on the window or run out of the house waving my arms like some kind of demented idiot 😂

The cherry tree is very close to the boundary wall  and what’s worse is there’s a covered deck area in front so I don’t even have a clear line of sight to throw something at the ******* things when they land. The branch they are determined to nest build on is directly above the patio table, hence every day I’m clearing away twigs and wot not that they are dropping onto the table.

We all know pigeons are dirty disease ridden vermin, is there something I can do to scare them off permanently, any smelling candles they hate?? 😂😂

As I mentioned it’s close to the wall and public pavement on the other side so I’m mindful of that.

I’ll add a picture to give a better idea..

just want them gone….forever!!

I`m surprised that you haven`t got artificial grass.

All those horrible creepy crawly worms lurking within:whistling:

Now that`s irony.:w00t:

Morning Chris .. I still think of my dear wife every single day when I see the various birds in my garden , it was my daily task to put the bird seed/feed out before I made the first cup of tea of the day , she knew most of the Pigeons , Robins and Blackbirds by there various antics and got very excited when a young Pigeon came on the scene , she would tell me when she saw the odd mouse eating the bird seed and within a day or so I would had caught it in the humane trap , I didn't have the heart to kill it so I let it go down the marsh , it had a slim chance of surviving rather than no chance if I had killed it , from the day Ann passed away I have fed the birds every single day and will continue as part of my duty . the enjoyment I get is worth far more than a few bags of bird seed , in fact it is priceless .   MM

There's a simple pleasure from watching the birds first thing in the morning,  especially when you did up together,  I'll lose an hour every day having my breakfast watching the birds, and it'll be one of my first jobs when I get back, topping up the empty feeders 👍

That's one of my enjoyments too,,,, and then shooting the odd rat attracted to the spilt seeds 😄

We get all the usual suspects,  plus yellowhammers, the odd linnet, and of course,,,,,, a few great big lovely wood pigeons 😁😆🤣

Well looks like I’m the cat amongst the pigeons here..

I won’t lie to any of you, I just don’t like pigeons..full stop!

I like all the other birds that come to the garden, even beautiful crows, the pigeon I utterly dislike, they just eat eat eat and eat, then mess everywhere all over decking furniture, patio areas, bird baths even washing hung out to dry. Just vile disgusting disease ridden vermin

We do have conifers in the back garden, without counting I’d say 30-40 leylandii all 20-25ft.  There are loads of birds nesting in those including pigeons, they are not interfering with our outside family social area at the front of the house, so I leave be, but I wasn’t prepared to let them nest directly above the patio table. The nest was never formed, twigs, leaves and wot not were scattered daily as they tried to build on a pair of crossed branches. I simply shook the branch or poked with a broom then binned. I could have waited until they had completed then binned, but I wanted to deter them and my plan worked. No harm to pigeons and we got our social area back - actually sat here now typing this with my wife who’s reading her book.

No offence intended but I think you should all wind your necks in a little.

Oh and btw, I have never shot or killed ANY wild bird or animal, I shoot targets or tin cans, or heads off matchsticks at 25yds.. great fun. Not hurting anyone or anything. From what I see on this forum most of you are hypocrites, one pp admits to shooting pigeons most of his life!!

Marshman -“ Pigeon shooting  have been my passion for most of my life my back garden“

Now he’s acting ambassador for the pigeon 😂

My conscience is clear thank you very much.

I am certainly no ambassador for the Pigeon , I do enjoy Pigeon shooting and it was also my part time job when I retired , I have been shooting some Wood Pigeons this afternoon but it do not alter the fact I like seeing the ones that come into my garden, I think you would find that the majority of Pigeon shooters would hate to see the last Wood Pigeon and would stop shooting them if they ever got to be near extinct.

A very restrained reply to someone who obviously doesn't have any respect for most wildlife it seems, and especially none towards the WP 😠

The question to ask is,,,, why join a shooting forum called Pigeon Watch with an attitude like that ?! 🤔

Not most - just pigeons!!

I enjoy using air rifles for target shooting, I joined hoping to share ideas and thoughts.

I actually started a simple project of building a storage box to hold my 3 rifles in the Craft & DIY section.

If you would prefer I leave, then have the balls to say so. As I say I haven’t harmed any wildlife let alone killed them - yet most of YOU have!! Still laughing at the poster above who trapped the wild mouse for daring to eat his bird food - double standards or what??

I just don’t like the idea of pigeons nesting 4ft above then ****ting all over my patio table..hello..hygiene??

Clearly you do, go ahead…knock yourself out.

When all is said and done, I asked for advice to deter nesting…that was my only crime, not kill them, trap them or harm them… simply deter them.

The number of stupid childish inane replies since makes me assume most of you are either elderly and losing the plot or simply just plain thick!!

Insults will get you nowhere !

Let's go back to the start.....

You destroyed the start of their nest building,,,, THAT is breaking the law as I pointed out ! You can't put up a defence that you "hate pigeons" !!!

I think it's you who needs to wind your neck in fella, and perhaps join an MDF Furniture forum instead of being ignorant as to the main purpose of this forum 🙄

Wow… 😳

erm… title of the thread.. “oh the irony”

I’ll spell that out to you as obviously most of you missed it!!

Its ironic I’m asking a question of how to deter pigeons nesting above outdoor eating/socialising area… on a forum called  Pigeonwatch.

Now, any normal sane person might have offered some nuggets of advice that without harming but would deter the nesting.

But instead I’ve read silly anecdotes of shooting pigeons, trapping mice because they dared to eat food left out ( 😳My, who’d’ve thought that!! -Doh) yet each poster patting themselves on the back despite  taking part in the above!! and the general taking the pi$$ as is found on most cliquey forums by the old skool members.

What I should’ve done, is shot them humanely and enjoyed the back slapping ritual…No??
