Air arms, Just a bad tin of lead or normal?

After doing pellet testing and finding Diabolo field & field heavy performed well from sample packs I decided to buy a couple of tins .

Just opened up the AA Diabolo heavy’s and after staring in the tin for all of 10 seconds I have pulled out 6 pellets that are destined for the bin . 

pictures don’t do it justice they are badly deformed making me not even want to waste my air on them .

Am I being picky? Do I just “man up” and plink with them ? Did I get a bad tin or have AA quality gone down the pan and this is the norm ?

I remember years ago believing AA was top tier lead compared to the rws superdome my barrel preferred .

Contact whoever you bought them from, my guess is they were posted, a couple of tins gets thrown around very easily. 

Say your not happy and either want a refund or replacement. 

Nothing you can do with those, you'll need to sort through the whole tin a separate the rubbish out.

Looking at that pellet I doubt any gun would shoot that well , my S510 is pellet on pellet at 30 yds with jsb hades and regular Diablos

Hello, Did you buy from a local shop or get them posted ? and did the tin have the usual sponge spacers ?? I have never used the AA Heavy pellet but 1000s of Diablo Fields , With AA pellets the skirts were some times prone to damage as to thin for a front heavy pellet, I reckon around 5% were chucked so now i use JSBs

Not bought any for 2 years, still have a couple of unopened tins but never spotted any as carp as those.

Fwiw, the JSB's I use now are much better size wise than AA ever were.

Must sort the AA tins and move them on locally.

Morning. Everyone , they was purchased from local gun shop .

If I’m completely honest I couldn’t bring myself to go in and complain about deformed pellets as we all no it’s not the shops fault …… is it ? 

I have also opened the tin of Diabolo field and unfortunately seen a few damaged ones .  
 

so the general consensus I’m getting is AA are still good pellets maybe I have a bad batch or a couple of bad tins  …

whereas the tin of Jsb heavy seem to be very consistent quality wise and at the minute can’t fault any but unfortunately my gun doesn’t seem to like the 5.52 Jsb as much as the 5.51 Diabolo field . 

maybe I’ll have to buy a new gun to get through this tin of Jsb 😂😂😂👍

rare I don’t find a few damaged pellets in any brand apart from hades luckily they work best in my s510

Hello, Hades are good although with my 22 PCP they usually go through rats many running off where as JSB domes will kill well

I use JSB Jumbo RS a bent skirts are par for the course. They're light and the skirts are very thin however it does depend, obviously, on how they've been handled before you get them. If you bought local I would pop back and show them the contents. 

Also JSB quality control seems a little overwhelmed over the last few years and you don't necessarily get one batch in the same tin. I've seen visible differences between the contents. Look at the flat disc inside the back of the pellet and you may some a different size. And head sizes, don't get me started, how you can guarantee 0.01mm on a lead pellet is unrealistic.

Just for reference, if I'd have opened a tin and had pellets damaged as bad as secret squirrel found, I'd throw them away. I've had slightly damaged pellets in the past, which hit the target with no issue. The blast of air pushing out the slight imperfections in the skirts. Never had more than probably 5% dodgy ones in a tin 😉 Sounds like you've been unlucky 🤷‍♂️

I get through 2-3k pellets a year and yes some are worse than others. 

You can use pellets with bent skirts, to a degree, and you're right the air will expand them into the bore. 

Run a few bent ones over a chrono compared to perfect pellets. You may find they'll run lower fps.

I’m sure it’s not the claim hades deform better but something about the design works my best theory so far is while still lead edge of the small triangles cut giving better penetration hence they drop the pige better than anything else

Read it again after ten seconds looking in the tin he pulled out 6, that's just not good enough.

I might reject 5 pellets out of 500 with the JSB heavies I'm shooting,  and the ones I reject really aren't that bad.

It is, they sold them you, could be there handling of the courier,  doesn't matter, at £20 a tin I'd be going back and expecting them to swap the tins, but open them in the store to see if there the same.

I did some tests a bit back using different hollow points, not sure if I posted it on here? I'll check and if not I'll post it separately 👍

With 3 young kids and Christmas almost here , the last thing I’m aloud to do right now is go upto the man cave . Especially not to sit and pick through pellets . The big man’s here in a few hours Iv got serious Santa sh*# to get sorted 😂😂.

Right so with Xmas out the way ,

The wife said I had an hour before we had her mum over so to get you your answer I roughly tipped half the tin of AA heavy and went through them pretty quickly and wasn’t too picky . 

out of roughly 250 pellets ish  , I put 30 in the “not good enough “ pile , not including those 6 I showed the other night . They went in the bin . 

working on averages . I’d be running at maybe 15% “arnt good enough”. 

BUT ……i had an hour to kill so I decided to see how bad these pellets would actually behave . 

Sighted in at 30M from a bipod with 0 wind . 

To say this gun is regulated I havnt found an actual pellet that stacks .

I picked the 10 least deformed and the 10 worste .
This is how they performed next to 5 “normal “ pellets .
