I totally agree, there is plenty of money going into the nhs but a large amount of it is being wasted, might be a start to actually get the staff into the hospital, I have a very close relative who works for the nhs and she said at any one time 3 out of 8 staff are off with pretend ailments and the usual excuse of stress. Even the consultants will decide last minute that because the weather is looking good that they are taking next week off and can she cancel the appointments and rebook them.

She is in an office of 8 girls and they are run by 5 managers. ( don’t forget that’s 5 girls really because the other 3 are off being ill)

Yes the nhs is broken in a great deal of areas due to a lot of lazy **** who couldn’t care less. I have more respect for people on the dole that tell you that they have no intention of working, at least they are not putting people’s lives at risk.
It must be completely demoralising for the front line grafters of the nhs, ie nurses, doctors, and some consultants and the many clerical hard working staff to see the lazy people swinging the lead in the back ground and getting away with it because the system allows it.

If they fine combed the nhs and got rid of the dead beats and managers that are not required, then I think they would have a lot of  additional money they need to supply a better service. But that is never going to happen because the dead beats and surplus managers know the system and how to play it.

I often wonder what sort of private health policy I could have if I was to invest the equivalent of what I pay to the nhs each month via my national insurance contributions. I suspect a really good one.

Its a complete restructure required and that will take between 30-40 years and that’s if we can find the right person with a backbone to head the changes.

But I also agree that quite a few nhs staff at the lower end of the food chain are under paid for the work and commitment they give and endure.

We have to remember that it is now a totally different NHS animal to the one that Aneurin Bevan envisaged.

and the NHS still perform those little miracles everyday regardless of the lazy deadbeats.

It may be worth reiterating that when the private sector runs out of ideas that they dial 999 for an ambulance to get rid of their problem?

But it would quite possibly be against the human rights of the lazy sod who couldn’t be bothered.

I have advanced cancer and it's critically important to me to be as well nourished, healthy and fit as I can. I also take a range of carefully researched supplements to enhance my immune system and it's ability to attack cancer cells.

I'm simply not prepared to have my immune system tinkered with by having foreign substances injected into me, and especially not vaccines which mess with my RNA or DNA. I had the 1st release of the Covid jab before my diagnosis but none since. My wife and I have both had Covid 3 times altogether. The last time was spring 2024 when my wife - who'd had the Covid booster - had it at the same time. She was under the weather for about 2-3 days whereas I was a bit low for one day. I've never had a flu jab and likely never will. I had a brush with flu in January 2018 felt rough for about 4 days and that was it. My philosophy is that simply because you're not actually sick or ill, don't assume you're healthy. I will be 79 in May still have all original joints etc,. and whilst I have an implant injected every 3 months to inhibit my testosterone, I'm not on any tablets for any of the normal stuff like BP, Type 2 or cholesterol. Maybe it's luck or maybe it's 55 years of healthy eating and living.

Lots of viruses doing the usual winter rounds, for most people they won't be a problem, for vulnerable individulals old and young

Just think, we virtually shut the plant down for this a couple of year ago.

Thanks for the kind words but in the unforgettable words of the Urologist I saw initially: "They can keep you going for a few years but it'll get you in the end!"

The oncologist said it more pleasantly but hey, I've had 3 years of full fitness so far...

i tell you what makes me really wee'd off ...and that is folk saying ..."ohhh im not well today im having a day off work cause ive got flu"........people think because they have a sniffle and a headache ...they have the flu.....

i had flu ....thee proper flu when i was 19..and nearly died as a result....i was bedridden for 2 weeks...and i was very strong and fit.....i have been thro a lot in my life and i can quite honestly say i have never felt as ill....the closest i have felt to that was when i had a repeat vaccine for yellow fever and had a exreme reaction to it...but that was only over 6 hours...

proper flu is something i would not wish on anyone

I've had it twice like that similar to you I was 20 years old and I could hardly move for 2 weeks and took another 2 weeks to fully recover. Had another bout in my mid 30s not as bad  but still very ill

you can easily understand how in the 1900's it so easily killed millions of fit young people......ok ...we have modern medicine now....but for older folk it wont make any difference...it will slaughter them once it gets hold

Looking for the positives in this as no doubt some already are? Kill off the oldies to make room for the new influx? Endless possibilities to reduce cost and shift the power base?

Have seen quite a few cases of suspected flu in the last month, and have sent a good fair few into hospital with complications.  As other posters have experienced it can be a proper nasty do.

I have had what I think was flu only once in my 30's and was 'off my feet' for a whole week, took me a good few weeks to get back to 'my' normal. I developed pneumonia last February and after the initial illness acute symptoms, I experienced a tiredness and lethargy for about four months after that I would never wish to experience again.

When we had the mokey pox alert, saw lots and lots of suspected cases across twelve months, however, none of them turned out to be monkeypox.

When we had the country wide measles alert, saw a small uptick in cases in our locality.

We recently had the whooping cough alert 3 months ago, saw a few of cases which I suspected to be whooping cough, a few turned out to be confirmed.

I see hundreds of patients each month.

Winter illness such as Influenza, rsv and covid are the main culprits.

Chinese Flu NEXT........................

TT, I will await the next chines flu tsunami.

The media absolutely love to sensationalise any pathogen since Covid. Fear and scaremongering seem to sell the news, decreases common sense and adds to and overloads the nhs. In my personal opinion anyway.
