"The multi-force response, with specialist support from two national units, emphasises that it will not be tolerated and that we are committed to responding robustly.

"We hope today's arrests sends a clear message to anyone involved in this kind of behaviour."

Police said they would continue to appeal for help in identifying those involved and dedicated patrols would be in place during the weekend."

This is the problem with policing today. It's not proactive, half the time it's not even reactive. 

The police hide behind the fact there's not enough evidence, but leave out the fact, there's no evidence because they never showed up to get any. 

Their top priority is no longer law and order but minimising harm, an incident like above, the police will have assessed the family were indoors and it's 'only' land being damaged, if they turned out dozens of officers and tried to collar the main offenders the likelyhood of injuries to both criminals and officers would be high, so they choose to come after the incident and hand the farmer a crime number instead. 

In short, policing has lost its way, they prioritise the wrong things, are run by and often employ the wrong type of people and are afraid of their own shadow.

Very true but.....

TBH what are a couple or even 10 police/PCSO's going to do against a large group of thugs?  they'd turn on them and kick the xxxx out of the officers.... the days of "Run its the fuzz" are long gone.

We haven't enough Police for our population and crime levels... we lost 20,000 of some of the most experienced in the 2010s....with Austerity - those numbers were eventually made good again but by the use of PCSOs and inexperienced recruits but our population has increased, as has crime.

This country really is bankrupt in all but name.

A defeatist attitude imo. 10 cop cars arrive together with blues and twos I'm sure they'd scatter and if not, if they'd employed the right people who could handle themselves rather than give a lecturer on non crime hate incidents, with a few police dogs and batons drawn, I'm sure they'd win the day.

The CC would receive a political reaming from the club supporters? 

The local authorities would not be pleased at the cost and organisational responsibilities required to provide care for the club members families once transport and ability to tarmac drives was removed by arrests?

Far easier and quieter to let the club alone apart from token arrests?

Before she retired & moved to France, i knew a Police Office in the rural crime unit down here, at times, they would have ONE car patrolling all of North and East Cornwall.... an incident she remembered was being in told to get to an incident where a man was beating up his partner, by the time she got there, the woman was in AE in Derriford...... my point is there is NOT 10 cars and dogs etc etc waiting around for the next 4 x 4 Hare coursing report.... its classed as "non violent" and is de prioritised.

Its the reality, this country hasn't enough Police.

If the police have lost the ability to police or refuse to police, because of fear and intimidation, then it is time for marshal law.

By design bud, the toal cost of a big bust would break the yearly budgets.

Health care. Schooling, transport and safe storage of vehicles, accommodation etc? A million? Claims for damages afterwards? Lots of free legal Eagle intervention?

I had the misfortune to be associated with the periphery of this 30 years ago. Very unpleasant were the cc.

The thing that resolved the situation was the women residents local to the situation facing them down and telling them that they were more than up for the confrontation. The cc club vacated inside an hour.

When that nasty talk leads to people trying to set fire to hotels with people in them...... or the cops getting bottles thrown at them or local community centres torched or Police cars set on fire.... you think that crime should go unpunished?

As far as the cops are concerned, churning up some fields and hare coursing are way down their list of priorities.... Criminal Damage charges are usually met with a small fine... or no action....

If you want high levels of Police numbers to be able to respond and all those local police stations reopened, mine is now a Funeral Parlour... then we'll have to pay a lot more tax and no one wants that.

Marshal law? if that ever happened, we'd all be made to hand in our guns....

To Arrest 2 of an estimated 70 and think that's sending out a message. The message I'm getting is incompetence. And going back to "hurty words" I'd be serving 5 life sentences for speaking my mind if Starmer had his way.

I don't buy it. 

We have enough police, but they're running around dealing with missing people, mental health and domestics which are always given more priority, even when the officers on the ground know it's the same kid that runs off from the home every week. The same couple that fight then make up. The same person with MH who uses the police as a crutch and has no real intent of killing themselves. 

While the law abiding and hard working people like the farmer and his family in this case are left to fend for themselves. 

This country needs a change, the police need their red tape cutting and the right people need to be employed and policing prioritys changed.
