Hello to you all i am hopefully about to get a variation for a .17hmr and was wondering what scope to get. I have a sako quad .22lr at the moment with a hawke nite eye ir 3x9x50 but cant imagine i will get a good long range view with this. Since i may just be changing barrels is there a scope that i could keep on and just adjust to each barrel cheers for any help

you'll have to get one of the sako boys to comment I can't remember what scopes you can keep on and change barrels.

I've a 4-16 x50 on my HMR not a quad I might add and I find it about right I'd possibly like a little more magnification but that is mostly for when playing with targets as it can be difficult to make out the holes over 100 yards

I would recommend looking at either a Nikko Sterling Nighteater or a MTC Viper. Both great rimfire scopes that should cope with the ranges your talking about, plus usable reticles, excellent light transmission and reasonable prices.

Alternatively if you really want to splash out I would buy one of Leupolds dedicated rimfire scopes - they are very good!

Hi there, I use a Burris 4-12x32 compact ballistic plex scope with Sako mounts on my Quad. I like it, 6x when using the 22lr barrel is fine, 10x for the hmr suits me. It is limited but the ballistic plex helps make up for the lower mag. If you're into big glass then forget it. I had a Nighteater 4-16x44 before this, good scope but the Burris is better IMO. Your choice of mounts and length of scope is what will affect which scope will allow barrel changes without disturbing it. Also, I find the comb on the Quad a little low and the higher the mounts the less head support you have, thats why I kept to a small scope to allow me to use low mounts. Just my personal taste! Good luck. DS.

If say, as we all do, have the mag set at say 8x for every day shooting, and its the mag you zeroed it on. If you adjust this up or down will it affect the zero and point of aim at all ??

On any decent scope the zero should remain exactly the same throughout the zoom range on cheap scopes its possible it could change.

I find if you crank up the zoom its very easy to miss because when your looking at lets say a rabbit and have the scope turned up very high the rabbit needless to say looks big and you think its handy shot and squeeze the trigger to quick or have a slight shake that the higher magnification does not show up  i leave mine at 8X and hardly ever touch it only if the shot is very close i might turn the scope back down :good:

I was told when i started rifle shooting "aim small miss small"-obviously dont have the target like a fly on the crosshairs though
