Hunter
Top tip: buy OVEN chips and fry them. Tastes 10 times better then standard ones. As for fresh, home cut and seasoned chips, you cant be them for both their nutrition and taste compared to a cheapo bag of frozen ones

wy111
Nowt to beat proper chips, better than any of your prepacked reconstituted c**p and leave the skin on as well. Roast spuds, do em in goose or duck fat, you'll never eat better ones.
Gordon R
Yorkshire chips done in beef suet - unbeatable. 80 mile round trip for fish and chips - well worth it. I have never travelled through Yorkshire without sampling - even on a Sunday.

claypop
Bit of a North South thing going on with chips - up here (Lincs) they like 'em mainly in lard which, as a Londoner, I find a bit eww. Gotta be cooked in oil or nothing!

Whats the EEU got to do? Nowt but scratch their bums till another braindead idea drops out. I'm a Yorkshireman first, Englishman second, not a European and I bet our British compatriots feel the same.

I agree - they've also made being English illegal too - show me any application form where you can tick english...it's British or Other...choose Other & write English & they send it back to you! just my 2pennisworth! ps I dont think they're allowed to SELL scraps....not that they do anyway! Like I can't sell excess chicken eggs without date stamping & having a snoop round from some department. TPR1966
I still cook Fresh Fish and Chips here, only when I catch my own Cod though Beginning of last November I had a nice 5lb'er out of the Mersey, but the marrow fat peas that you soak over night came from Tesco's
ziplex
Try frying 'em twice, cut pot's into chips wash really well in cold water, dry thoroughly! then fry at a slightly lower temp' (about 160 degrees) until soft, take out and allow to drain then wait till the fat/fryer is as hot as it'll go and plung 'em back in.....result is a lovely crispy chip that's all light and fluffy on the inside, cook an egg and butter a bit of bread! Lovely
