webber
Find some where that makes fencing panels from untreated wood, the dust is coarse and clean. Avoid general joinery shops as they will be cutting several different materials, some of which may be harmful to your ferret. webber
J@mes
does it need to be a certain wood? I know you can get "dustless" (as daft as it sounds) sawdust for animal bedding so that it reduces the likelyhood of respritory problems. something worth thinking about maybe? ShaggyRS6
Cheers Chaps, never thought of the timber yard.
gibby
I wouldn't be too keen on using timber yard shavings. As has been said, dustless wood shavings are out there, it's what i use on the horses and it does help with respiratory problems. Hardy
You can buy sacks of shavings from equestrian suppliers for about £6 a sack (the are compressed so you get a lot more than it looks - 2 bales will fill a 10 x 12 stable). We buy ours from a furniture manufacturer for a lot less - they are a lot less consistant and do contain quite a lot of sawdust along with other misc bits of wood! I'm sure if you offered to pop down to your local factory with a brush & a sack they'd let you help yourself.
BSA Shaun
If you can get down to me mate, can get you loads from when I do my forestry job
al4x
as said get the horse shavings, they have the dust removed and are also screened for any loose bits of metal. Normal shavings have a lot of dust etc in that won't be good for their respiratory systems. If you go to horse suppliers you also get the choice of paper and hemp bedding

lurcherboy
The horsey brigade. I get a bale that is compressed and in a tough plastic bag from the owner of a lab that ben covered last year. She doesn't charge me as she says it cost naff all so I'm not arguing. Big_Sam
Probably no good for outdoors, but when I used to keep furry things I used all the remains from our crosscut shredder. Just make sure everyone knows not to put plastic or staples through it. (yes I did nearly break the shredder testing its metal eating.... )
