Hello all. I tried to use my bouncers for the 1st time today but they did my head in to say the least. Am i correct to stick them into the ground at an angle with bird (decoy in my case) into the wind as all mine did today was twist around and the birds ended up upside down, also where in the pattern should i use them and do i attatch the birds so they fit facing in line with the bouncer? cheers

Just built and used mine today for the first time too!!Worked a treat , angled into ground, with birds heads facing the wind, wings cable tied to the v pieces, bounced like mad!!Dont know as they would work with a decoy though as it might be too light?

As i welded and made mine from bits of rod laying around the workshop mine are all different lengths , i just angled them into the ground so the birds were between 3 and 4 feet in the air and sitting almost flat to the ground, and away they went , bouncing.......

Hi people I'm new to this forum, so nothing like jumping in at the deep end, Not sure how you lot make your bouncers, but about 18 or19 years ago me and my mate used to get our decoy's moving by useing the steel band that hold pallets of bricks together. Worked a treat most of the time.

These days I live in south Mid Wales & woodies are a rare sight, so I tend not to shoot them.

We spend most of our time trying to shoot corvids etc (now they are sharp) in fact around here the shotgun is almost redundant as far as pest control goes.

Where is it twisting Mosa?

If it's a two piece, it could be twisting where it goes into the ground, at the telescopic point or where the cradle is situated, obviously each of these points needs to be adjusted or tightend if that is the case. I have a two piece bouncer and it doesn't twist, every now and again if there are strong winds it might tilt slightly to one side, but if it faces directly into the wind it should just bob up and down. Throw a leaf up in the air to see exactly which way the wind is blowing and face the bird directly into it.

As for how long to set it, it all depends on the wind strength; The more wind the less length you should give it. You want to pull it out just enough for the bird to be at that balance point where the wind pushes it both up and down, if it's just pushing it either just up or just down it's too long.

hi i made some and mounted the deek with the wire just under the chin and poking out through the hole in its back, i found that if the wings are mounted too low on the body the point of balance was too low and the bird flipped up side down in strong wind, so i keep the wings towards the top of the bird so most of the weight is below the point the wire enters the bird, the foam wings i use always try to sit at 90 degrees to the bird so ended up pointing up at 45 degrees, so i put a bead of mastic under the wings to hold them parallel to the ground, in the top link you can see the wings pointing upwards and in the second thay are parallel to the ground.
