Vegeta
Again I have no clue of black powder so don't know what the gun is going to perform like So if someone handed me that gun and said shoot that bear, I would say NO. The bear is broad side and probably presents a decent shot at its vitals but I don't know what the bullet will do when it strikes the animal (terminal ballistics) will it pass straight through, not a great back stop by the looks of it if the shot did pass through. Also that could be like shooting an elephant with a .22lr for all I know. So again due to my inexperience I would say no thanks
loopy bunny blaster
i would say no, purely because ive read you need a large calibre centrefire rifle to create a large wound channel so the animal hemerages as bears bleed slowly. dont quote me on that, just picked it off another site

auto culto
I wouldn't worry about missing. I'd be more worried about ******* it off it the first shot didn't count . How long does it take to reload a BP muzzleloader . And how long would it take for the bear to travel 125yards and disembowel you, had the first bullet been not quite placed right . I would be sure to have a semi 12g with solid slug to hand in case it went pear shaped.

henry d
Don`t think I`d go for the shot as it seems to be walking, however I would go for a head shot if it stopped. I would of course have previously checked the BMF of a handgun was loaded and ready for any action should the worst happen.......... "Clean undies please Nurse !!" new to the flock
This is not a huge bear by any means but he is definately a shooter bear. H you are correct he is walking calmly forward on a game trail. I also agree that I would not take the shot with him moving, but a quick rabbit in distress call on the back of the hand while I have the gun sited on him should stop him in his tracks. Timed correctly the near leg will be extented opening up the shot window that much more. The point of aiming is just behind the bears shoulder, alittle more than halfway down the body from top to bottom. with the leg in its current position this will result in a 2 lung shot. With the leg forward, the shot will result in 2 lungs and the heart. Either way he is not going anywear as the .50 cal bullet will be holding over 1000 foot pounds of energy at that distance. Auto Culto, I can reload that gun in 15 seconds, unfortunately I belive that he would be 10 yards past me in that time. If the shot was taken and a miss or wounding occurred it is pretty much guaranteed that he will run off at the noise and confusion. Mind you he may very well wait in ambush for you, or circle around and track you if you have annoyed him enough. The best answer is to put time in on your gun or bow and have the confidance to make that shot count. If the shot doesn't "feel" right it is not dont take it and wait for a better chance. I have only been charged by one bear. A big old sow of about 400 pounds....I got between her and her cubs while deer hunting. Unfortunately it was a her or me situation and I shot her charging. When she finished the drop and slide I could touch her with the gun muzzle without changing position. NTTF
