I suggest that , if you are a member, you contact the BASC and discuss this with them.

We have already had our monthly "lets bash the BASC thread", we are not going to have another one.

Should I rise to the bait??

Probably not!

After all, David is the insurance expert and will explain it in detail.

But hey. Just can't avoid reminding everyone that insurance is only a tiny part of what you pay for when you sign your direct debit to BASC. I think it's about 15% of the subscription pays for the insurance. The other 85% goes towards all the protection and services you really need.

:good:

It's a serious point though. Regard the insurance as a bonus that you get when you join BASC. But join because you value your sport and want to be able to continue enjoying it and want your children and grandchildren also to enjoy it in the future.

How many accounts does Mark Bivvy have?

Seriously, Cranfield is right.

If I was David from the BASC I would have told everyone to **** right off a very long time ago, diplomat that I am.

I would add that I hope there is plenty of room left on the forum boards to have a pop at the CPSA. Could someone have a look at the insurance they are offering, slate it and then I am on board.

notice the OP has gone quiet....care to back up your claim, or point out how their terms and conditions vastly differ from any other kind of insurance, meaning that BASC are complete and utter robbers and other shooting insurers are saints?

Or are you just a ****-stirrer?

If you are the same Graylag as on another similar sounding forum then yes he is.

If you are not then I apologize.

Either way you should substantiate your claim

The problem with people who complain about the BASC insurance in my opinion is that they may have spoken to people who have tried to make a claim and failed. BASC insurance, unlike car insurance, does not cover acts of stupidity, if you are fox shooting, and you shoot a cow, you are not covered by BASC insurance. With car insurance, if you are looking at a mini skirt whilst driving and hit another vehicle, you are covered. Probably the biggest point about the BASC insurance is that if you go to a farmer and ask for permission, telling him that you have £10,000,000 worth of insurance may well swing it to your advantage. Tell me where else you can get £10,000,000 worth of insurance for £9.50? How does this compare to your dog's insurance?

Of all the people that are members of this forum or who read this forum..... could someone please come forwards and confirm whether or not they have ever made a claim of BASC insurance or any other insurance policy for a shooting related incident?

I am not talking about the theft or damage to a gun kind of insurance - that's home contents or a specialist stand alone policy. Indeed, is there a dullard out there who thinks that their cabinet full of many £'s of guns and optics ought to be covered by the £9.50 BASC insurance contribution?

I have not had personally claimed for anything, but have had some valuable advice from them as a member and heard of times when they have helped out individuals.

At the end of the day its not an expensive policy to have in case you do need it.

the access for a start £1000 so if a bird you hit comes down on a car window you not coverd if you look and read what your coverd for this is not much. read the small print my man and you will see this for your self. plus other than an insurance thay may help shoots ie game. only wildfowlers come to only 12% of there overall members it seem's that thay do not give all there members the support that thay bang on about. but coner corman and colleages have nice new 4x4's THIS YEAR I BET I THINK SOME OF YOU ARE WEREING ROSE PETAL GLASSES

OK.

Let me give you a couple of examples - one that I was personally involved in and one that a friend was. Both are a while ago now but they could happen to anyone at any time.

The first one was when a friend's spaniel ran out onto the road while they were shooting. A car swerved to avoid hitting the dog and ended up against a tree, written off. I believe that the claim was for the vehicle and some slight personal injuries to the driver and was in the region of £5000 (told you it was some time ago - that would be £20,000 nowadays). The BASC insurance settled the claim and my friend did not have to pay a penny.

Second one was when our syndicate failed to adequatelyfence off the pheasant feeders on a farm we shot over. We thpought it was secure but a cow got in, ate the wheat, blew up and died. Again the BASC insurance paid the full cost of the claim against us by the farmer.

These are small claims. But think about the potential big one - if you accidentally shoot a pair of lovers concealed in the grass just where you fired at a rabbit. That claim could amount to £-millions, which is why BASC last year increased the coverage of its policy to £10,000,000 per claim. You hope it will never be needed but, kill or seriously injure someone while shooting and, if you are not insured, your life is totally ruined.
