new to the flock
If you land and they find out that you have a record as trivial as a speeding ticket and you did not declare it before entering the country they will not let you in. Harnser
Eagle eye , No You dont need a visa to visit the states .If you are a uk citizen you can stay in the states for three months under the visa waver scheme, and yes they can ban you if you have committed serious crimes in this country . Harnser . A sensible answer at last, check with the US embassy before you go if you have a criminal record. lurcherboy
Eagleye, you contact your local police and get a request form from them that will list your indiscretions. It's the same one you use when you want to immigrate. Not sure about not needing one if you are only staying for 3 months but make sure in any case as being refused entry when you get there sucks big time Hope this helps you. Harnser
Its not difficult to enter the states illegally from canada . These two countrys have the longest unmand border in the world . I was once fishing on my cousins boat on lake ontario for salmon and we were about 10 miles out on the lake and it was decided that as the fishing was slow we would steam into toronto to have lunch . We docked at downtown Toronto ,had lunch ,bought some fishing tackle and steamed back across the lake to the states .we were never stopped or questioned . I t was a bit of a bum nipper for me sa i didnt have my passport with me . Harnser .

Not a very sensible answer, really If you have a criminal record, resulting in arrest or conviction (other than minor traffic offences) the Visa Waiver Programme does not apply to you. A visa needs to be applied for Actually, I'll correct myself. Apparently, arrest doesn't even have to result in a conviction, which is a bit naughty, I think Edited April 26, 2008 by Chard
Blackbart
And you may have to go to the american embassy in london for an interview before they will grant you a visa. Also you must apply 3 month(min)before you intend to travel
MM
just got back from the states today, and you need a visa to enter, but you fill out the form on the plane if you are free from convictions. if you have any that might hamper your chances, check out online first. i have some from a few years ago (im sure we all have a few) and minor crimes dont count. Martin, The form that you filled out on the plane is whats known as an exit visa . All the info that you filled in is kept on file to make sure that you leave the states when your time is up . you must hand it in when you leave the states otherwise you will be listed as an illegal and will have your coller felt when you go the next time . If you have not handed it in when you left the states ,post it off asap to the us embassey in london . Also that exit visa is proof that you have entered the states as a bonafide traveller . Ice
If you have a record just declare it, so long as they are told prior everything will be fine, i had three wannabee tough nuts in a HMV store about 30min from where i live push my girlfriend out of the way in a que just before christmas, i was not in the que but standing to the side, this plank saw me looking at him and asked what my problem was, seeing that there were two shadows following him i naturally instantly got a hit of adrenalin from fear, anyway long story short, minor commotion guy with big mouth got to close for comfort so i repelled with a perfectly placed jap slap to the jaw, he dropped and didnt show any signs of getting up in a hurry, his shadows dispersed ("thankfully for me!!") and before you know it, im the bloody guilty one being held by the god dam power mad security guard. Pigs show up, im knicked in the steel bar hotel until cctv turns up, pigs arest me for...... wait for it "unprovoked assault" and a court date is set, luckly for me the store manager who happened to be on the till gave a witness statement which read something along the lines of, "if it was me i would have done the same" court date was cancelled!!! but the incident was still on my record, i have a holiday booked for october to florida, so i thought ****, called there homeland security and they said they have made a note of it and all is fine! phew I felt like a ******g criminal explaining it to them, why should i feel that way when i was defending myself?? should have seen the look on the guys face when he came round though, it was priceless lmao
Dr W
Good effort. Why on earth didn't the store manager stop security ringing the police in the first place or more to the point where was security when your girlfriend was being pushed about??? Ice
Good effort. Why on earth didn't the store manager stop security ringing the police in the first place or more to the point where was security when your girlfriend was being pushed about??? God knows, came running running up on me grabed me and held me for about 5 - 10 min until the men in black turned up, store manager later said he didnt want to comment in the shop at the time cos the pleb on the floor's mates were still hanging around waiting for the paramedics to sort out their leader, so i guess he didnt want to compromise himself as he works there all week, i didnt say nout cos im not a fighter and was bloody baffled as to why i was in handcufs and they just got to walk out with sympathy from every other F*@1)R present! Anyway when manager brought tapes to cop shop, he then gave a statement which saw me released, with a bloody assault charge on my record, cop said its not a normall assault charge as cctv footage showed it as a provoked attack! which im bloody sure it was, it was either **** myself and get kicked in by three tools, or take one out then get kicked in by two, and that sounded like a better deal to me, luckly the other two seeing there tribal leader with stars in his eyes was enough of a deterant. To add insult to injury no charges were brought against the pack, as technically they didnt do nothing wrong, it was recorded on my record as "self offense" which is reacting before attacked!! bollo**s to that is what i say! That is the visa waiver form that you have to fill out if you are eligible for visa free travel. Only people who are eligible for visa free travel can fill that out. Everyone else has to have a visa. If you have been arrested for any reason (whether you were convicted or not) you have to get a visa. Doesn't matter if it was 'minor' or not. Minor convictions like traffic offenses don't count as you weren't arrested. Glad I've got a US passport. Thanks Rick
