4x4 help

i am currently driving around in an old banger dihatsu sportrak which i got on the cheap but now i want to get a different 4x4 i am looking at the land rover discovery at the moment but i only have up to £1000. Anyone got any suggestions or any info on the disco

For that money Vitara.

 

Just a personal opinion, but if you spend £1000 on a discovery you will spend the same fixing it, decent ones are a little more pricey!

I would say Suzuki too, £1000 on a Land Rover would not be the only one you spend, unless you pick carefully.

what is the vitara like on petrol, i take it your talking about a 1.6 petrol

Don`t know about the petrol but the 2.0 TDI Vitara does @38mpg and has a huge boot.

for 1K I'd not be looking at a landie you'll only buy trouble, stick Jap if you can or possible a frontera if you're feeling brave

my vitara doe's good mpg on or off road best place for a landy is a landfill site and when it cant climb back out fill it in lol lol lol

Don't spend £1k on a landy unless you're very good at DIY mechanics. It'll cost you a fortune keeping it on the road

Those little Suzuki SJ's are pretty smart once kitted out. Bit small though if you have a lot of kit to move.

I have a LWB vitara gets me all over the farm and touch wood, I have not been stuck yet, there is room for two with all our kit and my dog, the only mod are the mud tyres does 28+ MPG as an average all town and off road, it may do more with road tyres? but I only do 50 to 80 miles a week

i used a cossac years ago and it surprised me good mpg only problem was altanator renewd every 6-8 weeks and no room good 4x4 thou

yep for some silly reason they put the alternator low down, so it soon fills up with water and curd. but there is a quick and easy diy job where you can relocate it higher up out of harms way

 

and yep space can be a problem, but its the same with most Suzuki's

i find with my vitara ripp back seats out and bag all gear up and its fine. mines a swb 1.6 great little tool love it

The 200 TDi was the best engine, couple with the LT77 gearbox

i bought a poverty spec 300TDi disco in april and have spent £130 since then in repairs. check the boot floor and inner wings aren't shot, and if you are only using it for knocking about it i would buy one without any toys - ABS, aircon, cruise, sunroofs etc. less to go wrong!
